Odd one this, but has anyone ever experienced passing out or seeing someone else pass out as a result of swigging a newly opened can of coke?

I have seen it several times. Tbe first time was a girlfiriend in the passenger seat of my new BMW 328 Sport - she swigged from the can, passed out and filled the ashtray with the contents of the can. She did the same again a few weeks later whilst (thankfully) not in the car - new can of coke, took a gulp and collapsed.

Mrs Manks has done it twice now, the last time was this morning. Opened a new can of coke, took a gulp and she was gone.

I am guessing it's something to do with a rush of C02 from the can.

Anyone else had this or know anything about it?

So it only happens to the women in your life.

Do they complain of a sore head and a sore arse when they come round too?

Sure you're not putting rohypnol in these cans?

Sounds like you need a bit less rohypnol, you want them groggy, not unconscious!

I liked the way he dropped in "my new BMW 328 Sport".

I did wonder when I opened the thread if we'd be talking Coca Cola or marching powder......

Never heard of anyone passing out from cola.

The worst "I had a mid-priced three-door coupe with sporty pretensions" thread I've ever started.

So your ex girlfriend and now wife pass out after drinking out of a freshly opened can of coke.

Wouldn't it be better to seek medical advice?

The accumulated knowledge of a thousand years of Western medicine over Pistonheads wisdom? Don't be ridiculous man.

If she does it again, consider getting her to change to these brands:

That's why we're here. Doctor PH is in the house. She has back door syndrome.

much more likely to be syncope or something related to oesphageal spasm than anything particular to do with fizzy pop - it wasn't a freshly purchased from the fridge can was it ?

It is vasovagal and is called "swallow syncope."

Basically the receptors in the neck that react to swallowing and other stimuli are more active in those who faint than others. Nobody knows why exactly. I'd guess they're taking big gulps with lots of bubbles making the gulps and immediate burps bigger, thus triggering the faint.

(bit of a thread killer this. sorry)

Mrs Manks is not prone to fainting.
