cheap, part worn Pirrelli's

Just about to Pay £120 for two rear Pirrelli's, part worn but in nice condition.I think that's a saving of roughly £400, apparently the guy can get almost anything (except off road tires which is a shame)another guy that works with me just paid £200 for conti sport 3's. all 4 corners.

Part worn aren't so bad, even if you put new tyres on its only a matter of time before they are part worn anyway, plus alot of tyres need to be part worn before they start to acheive good grip. Tyres that have been damaged tend to show signs on the wall, i must admit it is nice to know the history of the tyres though, it is the not knowing that puts people out of their comfort zone.
I put some part worn R888, i paid 400 euro for a full set, the previous owner decided they were too noisy for his evo, lol, they had done approx 400 miles and i saved approx 1200 euros, result.
But i do totally understand people feeling uneasy about putting part worn tyres.

part damaged and you'd be stupid but part worn, as you say whats the different between the ones you bought and put on your car and are now "part worn" and the ones he's bought? My only contribution is if the new tread depth is 6mm and the part worn ones are 3mm then its easy enough to work out what a sensible price is.

Check the age of the tires, if possible. In the US, I believe that DOT mandates that a manufacturing date code is stamped in the sidewall. I don't know what's required out of the US...
Tire storage also makes a big difference - if improperly stored, like around an ozone source, the rubber may be degraded.

alot of part worns are where they have been previously punctured close to or within the wall of the tyre and repaired within the guidelines set out for tyre repairs but on a car like a noble with that type of power i would steer clear of them or it could be they are good tyres which havent been repaired and have come of a car where somebody has changed all four tyres to have the make all round which would be fine so you would need to inspect the tyres for plug repairs etc cheers sean

I thought part worns were imported from parts of europe that have different laws on tyres. ie there min tread depth is more than ours, they by law have to change pairs of tyres even if one is like new and other one is scrubbed out due to tracking issue. A few years ago ( when I had an Esprit ) I replaced the rears and as I did not want different brands on the front I took them off even though there was plenty of tread on them. Anyway, I kept them in my garage for maybe 3 years and then flogged them on ebay to some chap who was going to use them for drift racing. My point ? Although they looked fine, they had been sat about for 3 years. Now, for the drifting chap, they were ideal, but I'd not wont them on a road car, especially on a car with the poke of a Noble.

thankyou the noise is mental and is more comfortable to drive than a noble but the noble is something special wish i could find a black m400 with exhaust mods etc to go next to it then my dream garage is complete
Sean if the TVR is more comfortable and sounds good then what makes the noble so special in your opinion?? (Not that i dissagree being an owner, of an M12 anyway)the looks of the noble in my opinion are mental and the power delivery from the twin turbo engine is lovely also the noble is not as twichy as the tvr but that said the tvr is fun to drive so(noise and comfort tvr.)(looks,handling,power delivery noble.) but both amazing cars so to have both would be a dream just think style of the noble looks lovely in black where as the tvr suits a brighter colour!only my opinion but both cars are awesome!!!!
you're exactly right, to all the naysayers... check before you slate, the tyres all come from germany where there are different laws on tyre tread , the ones i have seen are great quality and have plenty of tread left on them. the guy imports them and i have them fitted by someone i trust who would inform me if there was a flaw in the tyre wall...ect.
For a saving of £400 i think its more than worth losing a couple mil of tread, the guy says if you find a problem he will refund, so far so good.
