Hi

How do you get the door inserts off? I have a 94 4.0 and the passenger door insert is starting to come away at the top. I want to get this sorted before it gets too bad (or falls off).

Also can anyone suggest a wire I can connect my stereo to so that it turns off with the ignition?

Cheers

Dave

I have wired my stereo live to the switch under the dash which normally operates the dash lights. If you push the switch out and connect the dash light wires together using terminal connector - otherwise you will never see you rev counter at night! Then run the live for the stereo through it, allows you to turn on when you want. As for the door panel, Steve Heath's bible would be your best bet otherwise we will be here all day. Have to work occasionally. Vinny.

To get the door trim off, first remove the speaker, then feel about inside door for 5 (i think) nuts on long threaded studs, remove all these and the 1st bit of trim will come off, then remove the carpet trim piece by removing the screws, a small child may be needed for the 1st stage as the hole is not very big

Dave ... not sure if this will help, but ... I was mucking about with the wiring to my stereo, which is switched through the ignition, and the wiring for that is as follows:-

(colour codes as I remeber them ... they may be different on yours ... they may be different on mine )

Single bundle of wires from the loom ... eight grey wires for the 4 speakers

Red --- unswithched +12V from the battery
Black --- earth
Green (???) --- ignition switched +12V

Now, my stereo takes its power direct from the battery, but uses the ignition switch to enable the radio (connected via an external resistor to the green wire). I guess this allows the memory to be preserved.

Frankly I would prefer to remove the ignition switch from the equation, which should easily be achieved by switching the resistor acrss to the unswitched supply.

I don't know if the stereo could be powered direct from the switched supply (my green wire). It is possible it is only fused to be used as a signal. Obviously the stereo is easily capable of drawing several amps.

Do you know what size the nuts are( ie. what size spanner do I use)?

I have 2 wire looms. one for the speakers and one for the power. I have just ordered the Steve Heath bible so will see if there is any aditional info in there.

I think they are 10mm or 12mm but I could be wrong, and I imagine it depends whether the car was built on a monday, or a friday, and by Fred, or Barry

or 12mm or 7mm or 3.876 Whitworth Old Duffer or whatever...

The same is also true for the ICE wiring as well i.e. it also has changed. Mine is actually labelled which is useful. Other are not!
