Changing Rear Cans

I'm replacing my standard rear cans next weekend for louder carbon cans, but keeping the cats in. Can anyone advise on if I need an exhaust sealant when fitting the new cans or not; and if so, what's the best type to use?

No sealant required just fit them with the same clamps or new ones if needed, just make sure they are good and tight!

May want to get some plusgas and give the clamps a good spray the night/day before. One of mine was a right bugger to get off.

simple job....ha! Even with plus gas it can takes ages, and be careful not to damage the silencer box as you can strain the weld between the box and the pipe. Also a couple of people have found their cans to be spot welded onto the pipe, so not an easy job at all then.

When refitting, its worth using gun gum joint lubricant, it helps the cans slid on and will seal any gaps.

Not sure why you would want to introduce anything to the pipe unless it is needed. Try it first, once off they should be easy to take off again. Never needed anything else personally and the clamp is sufficient.

The previous owner of mine swapped the cans and one side wouldnt seal. The jointing compound sorted it out a treat.

Make sure you use the same type of clamp if you replace it & it is done up tightly my b----r fell off

Job done, new cans on, no problem at all. Got Them from Simon at Powertech Performance, top man, recommend him to anyone!

They sound fantastic; great investment for £199 the pair.

I have been toying with swapping my loud carbon cans (6 months old) for some quieter carbon cans. But I am not sure what it will sound like with quieter ones.

My car is decatted, and currently a bit too loud (eg I have have to go to a funeral in it on tuesday, the noise means that I will have to park half a mile away and walk)

Let me have a think, I need to experience a car with quieter ones first just to make sure I wont regret my decision

if you are ever going to track the car then hang on to the originals, you will need them to pass noise tests

The reason I want quieter ones is for track days. My car won't even get close to 105db. It must be 125db plus.

No worries, was just a off the cuff thought. I find mine a bit quiet so fancied livening things up a bit bu for the sake of 200quid can hang on to th originals too.

I've got my std cans in the shed. You're welcome to borrow them to see how they sound. I'm in North Hants.

My experience is they don't pop or bang as much even with a de-cat. So I put the cats back in and bought some CCC's
