Hi

Started really looking at my new project the 30th Tasmin FHC today.

This car has been restored previously, it was even featured in Practical Classics.

A few things don't seem correct to me, so it's time to ask a few question's.

Were should the battery be?
The layout of the switches on the central dash panel?
The layout of the switches behind the gear lever and handbrake?
I still don't know what the low line chassis is, the bible states that chassis numbers before and after mine have it?

As usual the bible only really covers the later models.

In the pics you can see the wheels don't have any center caps. Help has anybody got a spare set!

Bloody hell that's smart ! eek

On mine the (tiny) battery was in a gap next to the inner wing behind the brake fluid reservoir.

Switch layout same as on mine.

There appear to be two small pieces of trim missing from the sides of the 'shoebox' housing the radio.

I haven't heard mention of this 'lowline' chassis, so can't help there, unless they're (TVR) referring to the difference between the Wedge type chassis and that of the model preceding it.

Thanks for the reply.

Well the batt is not in the place you would think. It's in the boot beside the spare wheel under a piece of trim it fits well. (I will take a pic in the next couple of days.)

Re the switch's they look correct but what should they be and in what order!

Thank you for your comments!

Well whats to be done, lots, half the electrics don't work, door seals and hatch seals need replacing, plus the exhust needs sorting.

Twin pipes good a!
The are in fact just a one in to two extension (Soon sorted) but you can see from pic no rear bumper or rear exhust valance. The valance has now been sourced but I still need to find a S1 bumper. The center caps for the wheels are also missing and a set is needed.

Then just general tyding up and MOT!

Ah, ok Andy.

It sounds like a good arrangement for the battery compared to the way mine was, because presumably there will be room for a more sensible-sized one.
Minis seemed to manage with theirs in the boot...though slightly shorter wiring run.

I can't remember the exact details of the switches now. Hopefully another S1 owner will be able to enlighten you.

The fuseholder on the inner wing can sometimes cause problems if it's damaged or corroded (like intermittent cutting out on mine), so maybe worth checking.

Wheel-caps...can't help, but my car had the cross-spokes fitted, which also permitted the fitting of Granada Estate type vented discs and matching calipers up front.
Your original style wheels won't go over the calipers. I know, because I bought a spare set of the ones like yours to fit while the cross-spokes were being refurbished. (re-sold now).

I might have a spare set of caps, they'll be at my folks so I'll try to remember next time I'm over there and the Austin Princess vented 4pots do fit under your old 14in wheels. wink

With regards the switches, this might help.

The sketch is spot on except that you have the earlier short handbrake which doesn't work as noy enough leverage.

As for the square clock mine stopped working and the switches were iffy so I suppose I commited a heresy. It all worked nicely when I sold it. Wasn't that much extra effort.

Again, I might have one, again it's at my folks! Drop me a PM with anything you need, my cars never going to be "original" again so I may as well keep others going.

Very nice looking car indeed. I'm intrigued that your car is registered on an X plate when mine, Chassis No. 54, was first registered 24/5/80 on a V plate. Is there a logical reason for this or is it just the way things were at TVR in those days??? The battery on mine is between the wing and the brake servo and reservoir. The dash and switches look identical.

I have attached a link to some photos of mine which I hope may help.

Good to see another S1 FHC in original condition.
