Why are e36's easier to drift then e46's it is purely based on the e46 being heavier or is it becos the e46 has better traction control and grip???? Ive pranged a e36 into a lampost a few years back im scared of em ever since haha, i know own a e46 and its great, holds to the road like glue unless i turn the traction of which can jazz things up a bit lol

Some early E36's had LSD's but once traction control was introduced, the only E36 that came with an LSD was the M3's.

The traction control on the E36 (ASC+T), is a comparatively simple system compared to the E46's DSC system and slightly less intrusive, allowing some amount drift before cutting in, whereas the E46 system pre-empts the drift much earlier and takes command of the situation sooner.

The simplest way of of comparing the two systems is that the E36's is a reactive system, operating slightly after the fact, whereas the E46's is a pre-emptive system, operating almost before the fact.

What model E36 did you have and what suspension/ tyre& wheel combo was it on?

My experience is that the E46 rear suspension kinematics are much better at maintainging a linear grip reduction with chassis yaw and roll. On the E36, there seemed to be a sudden reduction in grip under some conditions, whereas the E46 transistions much much better into (and especially back out of) high yaw angles.
