US spec 3.2 questions
Discussion
I think I'm right in saying that the 3.2 initially had 207 bhp in US spec, rising to 217 when the G50 'box was introduced. Is this correct? Were there any other spec changes over European models? and how easy is it to get back the lost power? I thinkk that the Motronic was different (presumably just a mapping/programming issue) and the compression ratio was 9.5.
As I understand it, the '84-'86 3.2 in US and (Japan) was 'strangled' to 207 bhp over the ROW version with 231 bhp. This wasn't just down to the motronic, but also a heavier exhaust and cat system (US weighed in at 1210kg rather than 1160kg) and different internals (lower compression ratio in US: 9.5:1 rather than 10.3:1)
I think you'd have rather a lot more work to do than just remapping to return it to UK/EU spec.
I believe the suspension was also set higher to meet US bumper height regulations, although this is relatively easy to set right on the torsion bar 911s.

Edited to say: Sorry, missed the CompRatio bit on your post first time round.

Rubystone...I would check out the 911 air cooled section on the US based www.rennlist.com
There will be lots of answers here and our friends across the pond trying to get back to ROW horsepower despite the smog regulations.

In addition to all that, the gearbox ratios were different for the 915 in 2nd, 4th, 5th & also the G50 in 4th & 5th & no oil cooling on USA 915 box.
Valve sizes are listed as the same for Euro/USA so I can only assume that with Euro 10.3:1 pistons & an ECU custom re-map you should be up to normal 3.2 power & perhaps even more & up to chipped Euro 3.2 levels(assuming cat & air pump ripped off) although may also need euro spec exhaust & pos a Euro ECU.

Replace the Cat with a Euro spec pre-silencer & NOT a bypass pipe, these actually give LESS power(I've been there). A remapped ECU on top of this will give you about 235hp. This is about as much as you can do without changing to Euro spec pistons (or other mods).
Gear ratio/weight etc is very dependant on whether you have a US spec car OR a European car fitted with a US spec engine. My car came from Switzeland and is identical to a UK model G50 3.2 with the exception of the 930/25 US specification engine (for emissions reasons)
