Hi Jon,
not sure if is of interest to you or even if this is against forum rules. I am on the verge of selling my M3, 53 plate, same colour, smg, no nav or rear blind but has only done 38k. Was looking for a little bit more than that, was going to put it up at 14k due to the low miles.
Sorry in advance if advertising is not allowed. (It will be going in the classifieds in the next week or so)
Cheers,
Ed.

Nothing major required during my ownership. It had new springs all round last year under BMW warranty (now expired), not sure when cambelt will be due as still only low mileage but I can check.
I bought the car from BMW Worcester approved after a guy living down the road from me part exchanged it for a new M3 with them around 14 months ago, he had it for I think the previous 4 years. It has certainly seen no track days during his or my ownership. I am changing because of a new baby and need for more space. The car was bought through BMW Approved so was fully checked by them.
I am struggling to upload pictures, I can email you some if you like or if someone can tell me how to get a picture bigger than 2kb on here i'll post them up.
Cheers,
Ed.

Morning Jon,
Have mailed you pictures sorry they are all individual, when I put them together they failed to send. I have no interior pictures on my laptop, if you want some it will probably be the weekend when I can take some. It is dark when I leave for work and dark when I get home at the moment and I don't use the car for work so won't have it with me. Hope the photos are okay for you.
Cheers,
Ed.

Thanks for the comments guys. Ed that sounds really interesting. Like the lower milage but also like sat nav...... If i was Harry Hill we could let them fight it out. Keep me posted though Ed please. Not against rules Ed i don't think.
Is 78k too much for that price Kazman ??
JON
Some will say that is too expensive, others (including myself) will say to buy on condition, spec and history. Is 78k too much for that price Kazman ??

Not sure what you are getting at with the post above. I always take care of my vehicles checking fluids regularly and servicing on time or before time when the mileage has been low. The cambelt as far as I was aware was something that would be replaced at a higher mileage if one was required I would have thought it would have been mentioned by the main dealer or in my service book.
Anyway cheers for your input and smilies.

The E46 does not have a cambelt. Anyway cheers for your input and smilies.
Ed
Neither did the E36 generation before.
Jon,
Can I just add a word of warning.... if your going to get an SMG (which is the ONLY gearbox to have in my opinion) then I would make sure it's had the SMG pump done. I have an e46 M3 SMG myself along with 3 of my mates. 2 of theirs went before I brought mine costing £2000+ to replace at BMW. I made sure I found one with the pump already replaced as I didn't want any nasty surprises. I was lucky enough to find one that had a brand new SMG pump AND gearbox at BMW at a cost of just under £7000. It really is piece of mind... since owning mine the third one of my mates has been getting the SMG warning light come on with suspicion of the pump on it's way out. Oh, and it's not a milage thing - my mates went at 42k & 67k and mine went at around 70k.
One of the best comments made in this thread are to buy on condition and maintenance carried out, NOT on milage and age. All you need is a set of tyres replacing or disc's and pads all round and that's £1000 gone on both counts....
I am viewing a CSL on Friday and if I put a deposit down then my M3 will be for sale this weekend. If not then I shall keep it for the summer
Rough spec:
Facelift 2002 '52' reg (26/11/2002 registered so one of the very first facelifts)
82,000 miles
Carbon Black
SMG II
Grey Leather
Wide Screen Sat Nav with 2010 3D maps
Bluetooth
Power folding heated mirrors
Harmon Kardon
Parking Sensors
19" Polished M3 alloys
Heated seats
Adjustable lumbar
Adjustable bolster support
Tyre pressure monitors
Rain sensing wipers
Auto Xenons
Maintenance in the last 10,000 miles
New SMG Gearbox - £4294.85 (BMW Vines Gatwick)
New SMG Pump - £2029.06 (BMW Vine Gatwick)
New Disc's & Pads all round + Oil Service £1100 (Lee Shannon BMW of Bentley)
New Clutch - £700 (Munich Legends)
New Michelin PS2's all round £1100
All services completed on time at BMW, including the 1200 mile running in service. Also had the recall for the shells done, engine rebuilt by BMW under warranty at around 40k miles
As you can see it's had all of the common problems on these cars sorted at great expense. Like I say it's not defiantly for sale yet but I've got a feeling I wont be able to turn this CSL down as I've wanted one for a while now.
I've already been offered partx on mine, but I'd rather it go to someone who will appreciate it as opposed to a garage trying to make some more money out of me!
It won't be expensive that's all I can say... you'll have change from £11,500 put it that way.
Hope that helps
James

Thanks James. Good input. This forum is getting interesting !! Would love to see some pictures. (Don't worry Ed just looking at your competition !!!)
Sound like the SMG pump is important ! When was yours replaced James ? Actually what are milage estimates of the other works done. Not too sure about the grey leather though. Will have a look on some photos:-)
CLS sounds nice buddy good luck.
Thanks for the help

No worries, I was lucky enough to have friends with these cars before I brought mine so I let them make all the expensive mistakes!Sound like the SMG pump is important ! Below are some of the milage estimates:
New SMG Gearbox - £4294.85 (BMW Vines Gatwick) - 72,578 miles (still under BMW warranty)
New SMG Pump - £2029.06 (BMW Vine Gatwick) - 76,027 miles (still under BMW warranty)
New Disc's & Pads all round + Oil Service £1100 (Lee Shannon BMW of Bentley) - 77,508 miles
New Clutch - £700 (Munich Legends) - 82,602 ( last week!)
New Michelin PS2's all round £1100 - 78,000 miles
As you can see, it's all very recent, and the 2 main items are still under BMW 2year parts and labour warranty.
I'll get some photo's over to you ASAP, not ideal weather at the moment though!
As for grey leather, I wanted black originally but I got bored of seeing cream crack lines showing through on the bolsters and when I saw my M3 the work on the Pump and the gearbox was piece of mind that I wouldn't have to spend thousands so I though this was more important.
Good luck with your search though, hope you find a good one, just don't learn the hard way unless you've got money to burn!
James
