A large piece in today's Observer newspaper, where he lays into the presenters' lazy, bigoted views.

Probably not holding out on getting invited back to the show now.

As much as I like Top Gear I think they could've used a bit more judgement. Presenters, producers, BBC the lot of 'em.

I can't get away from the feeling that they're just having to try a bit too hard these days, both on the 'controversial' asides and the general buffoonery.

I agree, it just wasn't funny.

What wasn't funny? The bit about Mexican food or their ambassador?

Didn't offend me but at the time it was a bit obvious they were trying to cause a stir. Clarkson himself said, "I wonder how many complaints this will get" IIRC.

Since the grilling, JC has gone further to add;

Jeremy Clarkson said:
'Mexico doesn't have an Olympic team... because anyone who can run, jump or swim is already across the border.'

I couldn't care less what jokes people make about us Brits, there are far bigger problems in the World.

The amount of people that think what JC says is Gospel....and his catch phrases regurgitated over and over again by his baying masses, all who should be wearing the T-shirts...'I just had a crisis'

The funny thing he has been sprouting his same st for over 15 years..More like the Alf Garnet of the 21st century.

Does anyone really believe that this stuff is not deliberate? Yet more publicity for the show.

I think they were trying to do "post modern ironing" or whatever it is. It was so over the top, they there were parodying themselves, maybe. But it just didn't work that well, or at least not as well as they thought it should. The self parody works in the JC "powerrrrrrrr" bits, but it was somewhat cringeworthy.

Not sure I agree with the focus of the article being on their racist comments, I think Coogan would have done better highlighting the lazy, onanistic nature of what Top Gear has become; a not particularly funny parody of itself appealing to the lowest common denominator.

However the article is worth reading just for this

Coogan:
"Richard has his tongue so far down the back of Jeremy's trousers he could forge a career as the back end of a pantomime horse. His attempt to foster some Clarkson-like maverick status with his "edgy" humour is truly tragic. He reminds you of the squirt at school as he hangs round Clarkson the bully, as if to say, "I'm with him". Meanwhile, James May stands at the back holding their coats as they beat up the boy with the stutter."

He shoots! He scores! Back of the net.

Top Gear used to be a Must See for me but I have not really bothered with this series. It's such a yawn and I am sick of star in car and yet another crazily priced car going sideways in the hands of one of the presenters, chiefly Clarkson.

Last interesting thing they did was the Senna piece and when they went to Vietnam.

Not read the article but I watched the clip of the segment in question and it was terrible. Tongue in cheek offensiveness can be funny, but this wasn't funny, and it seemed to be aimed at the kind of mongs that believe that rubbish.

I didn't say that I didn't find it funny, well most of it wasn't...

James mentioned the words 'When all this is over' in his TG column this month. Maybe the 3 of them are secretly bored at the monster Top Gear has become and want to push until the BBC give in and sack them. Considering what the franchise is worth, they'll need to try harder.

Maybe it was an attempt to show how mad political correctness has become in which case it was certainly misjudged by all involved.

But are you supposed to agree with his sentiments or laugh at them (as you were with Al Garnet)?
