Tyre sizes for 8 x 15's

I originally posted this in the MX-5 section where it got not a single reply, so am giving it a try here:

I recently bought a set of Rota RB's for my Mk 1 MX-5, size is 8 x 15. Now I refuse to believe a 195/50 tyre will fit a wheel that wide so I'm going to buy a set of new ones. According to my calculations, I need a 205/50, 215/45 or 225/45 to keep the tyre diameter reasonably close to the original.

Any advice on which to go for? Or something different I haven't considered?

an 8j rim should fit a 215

215/45's have been on there for three months now. Fit beautifully.
