I admit that im not the smartest person in the world but could somebody answer me a question please?
If im getting nearly 12v at the two points B1 and B2 as shown below when i press the door button, would that mean that if there is no subsequent door solenoid clunk, that it would be faulty?
Or am i totally off the scent?

Are you getting 12V down to earth at each side of the lock motor. I would have thought one side should have 12V with respect to earth and the other to be at earth potential (OV with respect to earth) for the motor to operate.

Or do these door lock motors need 12V on each side? Seems strange if they do.

Regards

Simon

Those values are from the plug on the ecu.
How do you get to the door solenoid?

turn your multimeter on to resistant and check the coil, you can compare the reading to the other doors, if its not working at all youll more than likely get no reading and open circuit meaning the coils fooked.

Sometimes the door opening solenoid jams. This happened with mine - they jam in the open position.

I had to get to the solenoid in the B pillar from the inside, jiggle it a bit and WD40 IT.

Worked fine ever since.

If its not that, its a good plan to check that 12v appears on the wires connected to the solenoid anyway, when the button is pressed.

If it does, the solenoid is jammed or knackered. If it doesn't (measure with solenoid disconnected) then wiring or control box are suspect.

Pull off the carpet or vinyl strip on the inside of the rear door pillar. There's a hole you can get to - as usual though you have to have 6 fingers, each with 4 two-way joints.

Just an update for any body interested.
Turns out the door opening solenoid was faulty.
We took it out and put 12v to it and it didnt have quite enough inertia to move the plunger.
Got a new one from Maplins for £7.99 and works a treat!
Phew, a 7 quid repair. Which is nice.
