FALKEN-452 ANY GOOD ?

They get good reviews, not sure what they are like on a Griff though. They were on my list for the G33 although that's a bit lighter than a Griff

I had them on my Cerb - they're OK (but no more) when new, but quickly go hard and become cr@p. I wouldn't bother. I've got Toyo T1-Rs on now and they are much better.

On a totally different note I just put a set of Hankook RS2s on my daily driver, an Integra Type-R and love them. They're the best road tyres I've had. Very sticky, progressive and fine in the wet for a semi-trackday tyre. Also available in Cerb sizes....

I have Toyo T1-Rs on mine which I am very happy with. Is anyone able to offer any insight on how the Falken-452 tyres compare?

As per my post above. I have 452's on the Cerb which were fine at first but quickly went off / hrd. I now have T1-Rs on which I feel are better - slightly more grip than the 452's when new, much more grip than them when 12 months old.

Sorry I must have somehow missed your earlier post

I have fitted T1-Rs onto all my performance cars in the last 8 years and have always been 100% happy with them, and before the T1-Rs were out the Toyo T1-S. Something better may come along one day so I like to keep my ear to the ground hence the post.

I had Falkens on my old Chim and they were good when new but only OK after a few thousand miles - I found they seemed to go hard after a while and just weren't as grippy, even with plenty of tread left.
I'm now running BF Goodrich G-force profilers on my T350 and wish I'd discovered them sooner.

one of the reviews (4th or 5th down) does a good comparison over the FK452, the comments of which kind of echo my experiences and seemingly a couple of other PHers above.

very good, specialy for the price, only have to be carefull the first few miles because some sort layer is on it, so loose that and lots of grip in return.

after 3 sets FK452
I now want someting a bit better, but sadly almost x2 the price, the Contisport 5P

so I look at the prices too, though the new contisport (expensive) are a bit better all round, ofcorse normaly those tires are more then good enough for "normal" driving, but I want to try those Contisport 5P also on a trackday...
never like to switch tires, so looking at a good allrounder that also is pretty good on track (for a non semi-slick roadtyre)

Had the 452's on my Holden ( different animal I know but... ) and they were "OK"

Wear life was pitiful. Some of that is due to having 6 ltrs and a heavy right foot of course )

Now have the Vredstein's and the grip is far better ( even with the same right foot ). The 452's had an element of vagueness when under heavy loads which the V's don't have

Wear life seems to be much better too

Can't see why the same wouldn't be the case with the Griff

Having researched it and spoken to lots of users bought a set of Falkens 452 tyres from "Click-on tyres", for my MB S320CDi (18" AMG wheels). They are ideally suited, as have a high load rating.

I have Toyo tyres on the Griff and found them bouncy when compared with the OEM Bridgestones. This has been done to death before...but according to Toyo, the OEM TVR Toyo tyres had TVR on the sidewalls and they were twin ply (stiffer sidewalls). I guess they would not have been bouncy...

Back to the Falkens, I have spoken to quite a few Griff drivers and they all seem happy with the Falkens. There are relatively few manufacturers making the original tyre sizes in high speed ratings...Falken do. I guess the relatively stiff sidewalls probably suit the Griff suspension set-up.


I have used Vredestein tyres and have always been impressed, particularly with the wet weather performance.

I think you must make comparisons based on performance rather than simply price. I have found some good mid-price tyres and some astonishingly competent "budget" tyres. The MB was fitted with a £1000 set of Dunlop run-flat tyres...IMHO they were the worst tyres in every respect I have experienced on any of my cars in the last (at least) 20 years.... irrespective of price...sorry!

Finally, wide sizes of Falken tyres (245/45R18 FALKEN FK452 100Y) and (275/40R18 FALKEN FK452 99Y) currently appear to be in very short supply...so if in doubt, check your tread depths earlier rather than later!
