Hi,

Since i bought my BMW M6 a year ago i've only done 4000 miles, most of it stuck in traffic, before I sell the car i really want to take it on an adventure somewhere in the UK first and then when I’m brave enough take it to Germany.

I'm going to Bournemouth soon and wanted to know if there are any exciting routes instead of the normal M3?

I'm thinking about leaving early on Saturday morning and then getting there for midday.

Regards

A338 is a good bet depending where you're travelling from

LOndon.

Will start from the A3 and then onto the M25 before coming off on the M3 to Bournemouth.

I would like to maybe come off somewhere on the M3 if possible.

I've been doing this route for years, but never really tried to look for an improved route.

What I did do recently, when traffic was bad was use the roads across the New Forest to bypass the A31/M27. I was heading back towards London, so just kept going up the A338 a little further rather than taking the A31 and then turned right onto one of the forest roads. Looking at the map I'm not sure if it was B3078 or one of the unclassifieds further down (I think it was the B-road). It wasn't spectacular as a driving road, and it definitely took longer than a clear run on the main road, but it was a lot more pleasant. If you keep an eye out for ponies, tourists and the the constabulary I think you can flex the blanket 40mph limit a little without being too reckless. wink

If you have not done this, try the following:

A3 onto the A31, follow the A31 all the way to the M3, then M27 - off at Junction 2 and take the A36 towards Salisbury.

After 4 miles or so, turn left towards Nomansland - follow the signs for Linwood and this will include the infamous "Stoney Cross straight". Follow the road past the High Corner Inn and then pick up the signs for Ringwood.

Then join the A338 towards Bournemouth...

Did it today taking my car to Emblem, the A30/A33/A31 route from Basingstoke will take you past Kingsworthy and Winchester (the route you used to have to go before the M3 was extended). Much empty dual- and single-carriageway A road goodness. Unfortunately it dumps you back onto the M3 J10, before Twyford Down, unless you want to battle through Winchester itself. However, you can come back off at the J11 (1 mile ish) and cut across to Romsey and the M27, via the A3090 which is a particularly good alternative to the motorway. Then back on the A31 to Ringwood and the A338. However, if you have some time on your hands, you may enjoy coming off the A31 onto the A337 and then A35, through the New Forest.

ETA - you can join the A30 easily from any of Junctions 3, 4, 4a, 5, 6 or 7 on the M3, depending on how much time you've got on your hands smile
