MkII key question
Discussion
Hi,
The keys are indeed coded to the immobiliser of the car. You can order a pre-coded key from Mazda but you end up paying a fortune. We recently bought a set of keys (and associated locks) from MX5Parts for our MKII at a MUCH reduced price and a local garage coded the keys to the existing immobiliser. IIRC they needed two existing keys to programme a third. Unfortunately I don't have the exact coding procedure but I think you can find it on the internet.

It's not really a rip off.. £35 or so quid for the key and depending who you are £20-£30 coding and cutting fee.
You need atleast two keys to code to the immobiliser system, and we can get keys cut to a key number (from the factory). But for example if you lost all your keys you would have to buy atleast two keys. Keys can be pattern cut from your current keys which is cheaper than ordering a key cut to code.
Anything else?
