I'm going up to Image Wheels this week to sort out some new rims. Before doing so, I decided to check a few dimensions etc. of my existing 8.5 x 15 and 8.0 x 15 O.Z. wheels. I know the offsets and PCD but wanted to check the bore (even though I will take a spare wheel with me for them to measure). The hub comes out at 63.5mm (checked 2) and the wheels come out at 66.5mm (checked 3), which seems too much clearance to me. Should these wheels originally have been fitted with spigot rings, or is this just a case of "it's close enough, we'll use these rims"?

No, that is too much slack, they should have spigot rings. Normally it's the tight nuts that keep the wheel from moving, but if these ever become loose then the hub centre should still engage with the wheel. It will slop about horridly otherwise.

I visited Rimstock / Team Dynamics today which is in the same part of the world so you may wish to pop in there.

Several of their cast designs are available in a whole bunch of sizes, PCD's & offsets.

While there I saw raw TVR spiders, Tuscan race wheels, current Aston, Lotus and McClaren, Spyker and Ginetta wheels.

They offer both cast and forged wheels.

Serious manufacturer.

Also on the subject of oz wheels, I'm getting mine refurbished soon'ish, is there a colour code for the painted/coated centre spoked silver section? and is it possible to get the centre caps rechromed? then there is the painted TVR on the cap,I can get that made up as a printed sticker or is there another method?

No colour code that I'm aware of. No idea about refurbishing the plastic caps, but the badges are still available from RT Racing - I ordered some today.

I've now checked all eight wheels I have, and they're all 66.5 -66.6mm bore size, which, combined with the 112mm PCD, is a Mercedes fitment. I suspect that TVR did not have these wheels specially made by O.Z., especially since the production of these cars was such low volume. My guess is that they chose them as being the closest fitment in the O.Z. catalogue to the hub size of 63.4mm. Having said that, it's only after 13 years of owning the car that I have realised this discrepancy, and then only because I'm getting some new wheels made.

In the meantime, I'm investigating the possibility of having some custom spigot rings made - unfortunately there will be nothing already made that will fit. Anyone else measured their wheel bores out of interest?

Sorry...forgot to check after the back wheel came off at 90 leptons, but I can tell you that the cars brake and handle great on 3 wheels. hehe
