Whos public camping and whos private? Beausejour or Tetre???

just spoken to a lovely lady at Speed Chills who ran me through the options for public and private camping, a few of the sites etc etc and the amount of choice has confused me to say the least! I'm not sure where i need to stay now! I like the sound of the private camping as they keep the shower/toilet facilities clean throughout the day, but am i being a snob? how bad can the public shower/toilet facilities be?

Also, if i book with a certain company, can i pop to other camp sites run by another company or can i only visit the sites run by my travel agent?

How is Tetre Rouge and Beausejour? Entertainment and facility wise?

Sorry for all the Q's, but i want to get this frist trip right!

I went private last year with the Vauxhall VXR lot and it was GREAT
Clean toilets and showers and met with a nice crowd of people. Most private camps have security which is a bonus. When walking past shower blocks with people queuing outside I felt very luckly and clean
I have to say last year was my first time at Le Mans in 20 years but going again this year

And just to throw a spanner in your plans I would say that the facilities on the Tertre Rouge public site are great. Kept clean all weekend with cleaning staff on-site all the time. It's a very small site and has the feel of a private site, with security on the gates and as I said nice clean toilets, hot showers and not excessive queues for the facilities. And only a couple of minutes, maybe 5 maximum to the trackside. Beausejour is a half hour walk to the village area!Although very close to the Porsche Curves it can be a trek if the camping area isn't near the front of the site. Although TR issandwiched between the track and the southern by-pass it didn't seem that noisy when I stayed last year. No problems sleeping at all, but then that could just be me.
Personally I would take the private camping option (£148 for camping only from speedchills, buy your General Entrance (€65?) tickets when you rock up) and save a large chunk of cash and spend it on beer, food, petrol (which is more expensive over there than here, so factor that into your costs!) or a couple of decent meals in Le Mans town centre.
No matter where you camp you will have a great time, chat and laugh with your neighbours, share some beers and if camping with the masses isn't for you then pay over the odds next year. If you find it's fine then the money you've saved this year will have paid for next years trip already! Look upon this year as a recce for future trips!

For those unfamiliar, 'Tertre Rouge' campsite is the ACO site as described by Froglet above, inside the circuit on the outside of the track, runs from the stage/ fairground area alongside the esses, I've always stayed there since my first Le Mans in 2003 and wouldn't stay anywhere else.
Some on here stay on the campsite on the inside of Tertre Rouge corner itself which is a private site, the two are sometimes confused on here.

2010 was my first trip and I had the same concerns. Seven of us ended up on the Team Langoustine site and had a ball. We took a motorhome for fun (and just in case the facilities were c**p!) but we are back with TL again this year in tents.

As some others have stated Tetre Rouge is probably the first choice of campsites for a large number of Le Man regulars, me included. By far the most convienient for just about everything and by far the best view of the track.

Only i problem with camping there that I know, getting tickets, very limited in number and very few sellers.

......from the motorhome opposite? How could we forget! Still, full deposit returned by the hire company so all was good. We're heading down on the Thursday this year and braving canvas.....but it's BIG canvas!
