S2 Tyre Choices?
Discussion
Well thanks for all your help guys I have now purchased a 1991 944 S2 in Guards Red with 84k.
Only problem is.....
I got a punchure on the way home before I had a chance to drive it properly!
The car has only done 10k miles in the last 5 years and is runnning on Marshall Tyres at the rear (one of which now needs replacing), a Conti and Avon at the front. All these tyres will be 5 years +, although loads of tread left. I am concerned the noise the punture made, almost a blow out style whilst stationary.
So am going to replace all tyres and Goodyear Eagle F1 has been recommended, I do 25k mile per annum and a few trackdays, any other suggestions?
The other option is to keep one front Conti and buy another 3 but I am concerned about its age - should I be?
All help would be greatly welcomed.
BTW:- As if the neighbours don't object enough to the noise of my TVR, the Porsche decided it was being stolen last night about 1am so guess I have to sort a fault alarm out to!
Best Regards
Simon

To behonest with a mix like that i'm surprised you are still alive.

Had an S2 some years ago (gasp! Ten!!) running Goodyear Eagles -seemed fine and relatively good wear rate including track days.
Advize running lower than book pressures though as the rears tended to wear in the middle.

Just sent this to the titanic list:
Yep IMHO Conti's are really awful, had exactly the same issue even a lane change in the wet was a heart stopping moment.
They got binned with 6mm of tread on them and went went to Bridgestone S02 (you can still provoke these but it was night and day)
Also good is the Eagle F1. If you go for the Toyo's make sure it's the T1-S

I have conti sports on my car they are great in the
dry buy I'm very wary of them in the wet the back end
kicks out a lot if you floor it in first, second and
sometimes third gear, nothing spectacular as it can be corrected but unnerving never the less.
Has anyone else experienced the same and changed
brand?
If so did it cure the problem and which brand did you
choose?
I'm leaning towards Toyo proxes as I've not heard bad
things but it will have to wait until I can afford
bigger wheels to go with them :-(

Have just put a set of Dunlop SP Sport 2000's on mine and while they prolly aren't the last word in performance seem a fair compromise between grip, noise and comfort. From a run of the mill tyre dealer they were £75 for the fronts and £100 for the rears, sadly didn't really have much time to shop around.
Simon - when did you get yours? I picked up my S2 last saturday and now with new tyres and windscreen wipers(!) am having a reet giggle
Mine has 49k and has done 3k in the last 3 years and as a result the tyres were in a pretty sorry state - new boots have absolutely transformed it

I love it when we answer tyre questions, we rarely agree
I have Conti's on my Turbo and I have no problems with them. On wet trackdays I use them and they seem fine to me. I did a wet Knockhill and a wet Silverstone last year and they were great compared to a lot of the other cars.
However I have heard a few good reports about the Kumho 712's and I shall be trying them this year as the Contis are at 3mm now

I went from SO2 N-3 to Dunlop SP9000s on my Turbo, I prefer the Dunlops they are more predictable in the dry (slightly less grip)at least as grippy in the wet and wear better (more slowly). They were also cheaper. Finally I was also told by Micheldever the Bridgestones were being discontinued (almost a year ago) so if you get another puncture later this could be problem.
