Hi All,

I have a real problem on my hands.

I want to start a building project on a mid-terrace town house on a high street, in Medway Kent.

The is no rear access and the high street has double yellow lines.

The street is wide enough for a skip to be parked and two cars to pass in opposite directions.

How and where can I put a skip? There is no front garden either?!?

The council on the phone told me no skips on double yellows !

You haven't thought this through have you hehe

I would say dump everything in the rear garden for the time being, then when the time comes hire some kind of wagon to remove it all in one go on a quiet weekend?

There is no rear access, no side access, no access what so ever.

I wanted a skip out the front, so I could get everything through the front door and into a skip.

I also need to dig foundations so all this soil has to go somewhere?!?!?

Are there any gardens backing on to the back garden of your property, preferably with a side entrance? If so, might a deal be done with 'tother property owner.

Is there a neighbour or the end of terrace house that has an off road parking space/piece of land? You could offer to rent it off them for however long you need the skip on it.
It might mean a short walk with a wheel barrow, but there doesn't seem to be any other way if you don't have anywhere to stockpile the rubbish and get rid in one go.

No side access.....there are at least 10 houses each side and then blocks of flats with gated access.

I've been to the site and looking on google maps and am running out of ideas now.

Arrange for a wait and load or even a grab lorry then dump it in the road on the day of collection. Have you asked advice from any skip companies yet?

Don't the council offer dispensations? This is an example from Westminster council, I know it states vehicles but if they can offer a dispensation for a vehicle, you'd think a skip might be treated the same. The other option would be to obtain a dispensation and use a tipper to load the rubbish in.

Dispensations

A yellow line dispensation allows people to park on a single yellow line (or in special cases on double yellow lines) if a vehicle is required to:

* carry out a specific work purpose,
* be as close to the premises as possible, and
* no alternative parking space is available.

Trebuchet, and fire the waste as far away as you can.
And if you film it you'll get paid by the Histroy channel if you tart it up as some sort of retro science experiment/Mythbusters type proogram.

yes Would also be environmentally friendly, as none of those nasty carbon thingies would be produced in the removal of.

Have you never seen the Great Escape?

Sew some long pockets with open bottoms held in place with string, fill pockets with soil, spread around with feet when the guards aren't watching.

So far you've not spoken to a local skip company, have you?

They will be aware of most problem streets in their area, and most will have contacts at the council to discuss problem skips.

You will be charged for a permit for the skip on the road, though.

Dig a large hole in the garden and bury it?

As a matter of interest how are the Council going to give a skip a ticket? They cant clamp it, and if they take it away when its full that saves you paying the skip company!

I believe they will fine the company that supplied it if it doesn't have a valid skip permit. I doubt you'd find a skip company who would leae it on double yellows.

OP - Which high street is it? If its Rochester High Street you're buggered.

Buy a very cheap pick up truck from ebay, load up the pick up truck. Drive it off when you see a warden

Make sure its high enough to easily to unload into a skip (I assume you will have one in a near by street)

When done, sell the pick up on ebay (you should get what you paid for it)

Actually just buy an old builders van, fill it up as you need, empty as required at the local tip or into a skip at home if you must. Also useful for picking stuff up in a renovation!!

Borrow a white transit van, adorn with "Radioactive Waste Removal" stickers on the side, block said street. Load skips while wearing a white paper suit and mask. Job done wink
