2 problems help please

just started getting the car ready for the mot i cant open boot up can hear the switch clicking but the lid wont open number 2 problem when the lights are on then i put the indicaters on all the lights flash as well where can i get replacement lights

No idea about your first problem (I have a cable operated boot) but the lights flashing is an earth issue so new lights probably won't do anything.

I suggest cleaning the contacts on your rear light clusters (when you get the boot open!) and if you haven't already then then clean up the earth point on the chassis under the bonnet near the back of the front wheel (but I can't remember which side).

I had some lighting problems when I first got my car but cleaning the earths and rear light cluster fixed it.

Earths also under rear wheel arches - only drivers side on V8S which is to the battery (in the boot).

Andy YHM also try pressing boot release like mad, I can only get mine to open pressing it a few times quickly in succession.

Try getting someone to press on the boot (on the drivers side where the catch is) while you press the release button ?

Problem with lights sounds like an earth fault, no amount of new lights will cure that ! aswell as all the places already mentioned I'd check the multi connectors near the bonnet hinges that take power to all front lights. Due to location they are very prone to corrosion.

Just re-read your post, do you mean all lights or all rear lights flash ???

The flashing is caused by the indicators back-feeding other light circuits due to a poor earth. The rear light assembly uses some nasty copper tracks which suffer from corrosion and poor contacts, so I'd suggest looking inside the light cluster first.

i had this problem over the weekend with the rear lights
i turned the ignition off and back on and the problem cleared ?

after cleaning all the contacts on the bulb holder can you spray wd 40 on this ?
or is there something better ?

WD40 will help reduce corrosion but won't help get a good electrical contact. Proper electrical contact cleaner spray is what you really want.

For the boot if left shut for a long period mine does this and sticks just get someone to lightly press the boot down and release it repeatedly as you operate the solenoid, should work. If not use the emergency entry technique. If you need this then PM me as for obvious reasons I won't post it (and given your lack of posts some evidence that you are an owner would be appreviated - the technique allows you to break in in emergency so don't want to just give it out)

For the rear light earthing, firstly try taking out the bulbs, cleaning them and putting them back. They could have been in place for years with condensation having an effect.

good find gerald why couldn't i find that on ebay ? i would have bought the bulb holder as thats new

i have just won a secondhand pair of rear lights with bulb holders for £15 incl delivery
i'll check and clean the bulb holder and fit these and keep the old ones as spares

the new connectors look a good buy i'll get them to

to fit the new connector , do you unclip the old connector to release the wires ? i thought it was sealed ?
the picture on ebay shows the new connector open i think to take the wires and the female part of the electrical connector
any tips on fitting this would be helpful

Something else you can use to clean contacts, even inacessable ones is Brobat toilet cleaner!" apply with a painting set brush leave for about 3 min then either wipe off or spray off with WD. We used it in the RN in subs for realy grotty & coroded bits of kit. Never found anything to beat it, cleans metal up to a sparkling finish

You can buy it as a standard toilet cleaner. Nowadays it comes in a dark blue (probaly of naval influance ) duck type bottle at, Tesco, Sainsbury's or if you are feeling a bit upmarket Marks & Sparks. Strange as it may seem, it is the only one you can use if you happen to be on a cess pit arrangment, as I am. So it is far removed from WMD as is particulay kind to bacteria. Best stop their as I might get a bit political
