The People's supermarket ?
Discussion
Did I miss a thread on this, or is it hidden elsewhere ?
Watched this the other night, but really couldn't make my mind up..
Yes, interesting idea, but why would you spend 4 hours month working for free, to get 10% off already high prices, when you could just go to your day job, and earn the money there...
Mostly seemed like a collection of cheap shots by C4 vs any big business.

Yup! It seems to be working in the USA and, they only work (I believe) two hours PM. If/when they increase the membership, they should be able to purchase products in greater numbers, thus reducing their prices. Is an interesting idea, as their aim is to also provide better quality products at a reduced price. Will it work in central London though?
Superb idea and an interesting program but I think he failed on a number of occasions to communicate what he saw in the States. Maybe these kinds of conversations were edited out of the show but IMHO communications are key and he didn't communicate much at all about the sucess of the already working business model.
Plus 10% for 4 hours is taking the mick compared to the 40% for 2 hours that the American version is operating at.
Unfortunately, as much as I wish the guy every sucess, was left feeling infinitely more enthused with the American model than the English one.
Here's hoping the subsequent programs improve over the next few weeks.

I don't think they did.... the 'show' just keeps changing the goalposts..
surely most of the people who signed up, did it for the 10% off vs 4 hrs work a month..
Some of the stuff he is coming up with is interesting/thought provoking, but I can't see it working..
People want price, choice and convenience, he's offering none of those.

Just catching up on this at the moment and agree that there doesn't seem to be a proper focus but it also seems to be lacking a message to the customers that tries to steer them from processed foods and gets them making things themselves.
The prime example is the lady who storms out because she can't buy frozen chips and ready-made pizza, she then attends a meeting and asks for them to get a freezer in and sell chips - someone dares to suggest she makes them from the potatoes they sell and this gets shot down.
Surely the key to this kind of venture would be combining a Jamie Oliver "Meals made easy" type thing with a shop that supplies it all from the local area? A permanent farmers market / veg box type thing.
(only on part 2 so apologies if this happens in a bit)
