Oh My What A Surprise!

Am in total disbelief here http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12389512 A Gov't contract with irregularities?
Looks like a "Brown Envelope" job to me...
Can't be right!

I knew that the debate had already started so I went back, found the original thread, and posted a link to the news that was emerging.
And then you started another thread on the same topic.
What was good about the other thread was the individual who was strongly supporting the privatisation and having a real go at standrds in the military - and got a lot of (richly deserved) flak in the process.

But does this mean that when we need a SAR helicopter in future we'll have to dial an 0870 number and then listen to a recorded message saying 'Your call is important to us'...?
And perhaps CompareTheChopper.com will allow us to switch from one SAR supplier to another... 'Premium Bronze' package service includes rescue from cliffs under 100 feet tall; for cliffs up to 500 feet you need 'Premium Ultra with Homestart'... three months at £7.99 + VAT and then £12.99 + VAT after that. Manage your Rescue Chopper package online or from your iPhone App :sigh:

So it's nothing to do with a certain prince, worried about the possibity of being made redundent or working for less pay for a private company, having a chat with Mr Cameron the other week?
Afterall he/we have a large wedding to pay for soon.
I don't think a pilot's salary makes much difference. Have you stopped to wonder how much revenue the country will MAKE from the Royal Wedding or is this just a 'I hate the royals because they have more money than me' thing?Afterall he/we have a large wedding to pay for soon.

You're seriously suggesting the SAR privatisation fell through because Prince William likes cutting about in a yellow Sea King, and is worried about loss of earnings?Afterall he/we have a large wedding to pay for soon.

multi million pound policing operation paid for by whom?
Businesses who have to pay double time on that day to staff working
tacky chineese made junk being sold everywhere
London at a standstill
do tell us then what WE make out of it
Who cares if London is at a standstill? The only people who will be there will be tourists attending the wedding the rest of us will have the day off!multi million pound policing operation paid for by whom?

As regards paying people double time that depends on your contract. My contract names the bank holidays I get off, and as this is not one of them I have to take it as holiday and I have no doubt that many other people will be in the same boat. This also means a lot of businesses will not have to double tim to their staff that are working.
As regards the multi-million pounnd policing bill arent we already paying the police? Therefore it is just an artifical exercise to say the policing costs millions. The actual cost is a the hours of overtime we wouldnt have had to pay.
Retailers will make money from more people being around to shop in the day, the mark up they get on the chinese tat, travel companies will make from those taking holidays with the extra bank holidays, schools will make with parents being fined for taking kids out of school between easter and may day, tv and radio crew will make money from the additional work, holidays will make money from more tourists etc

Plus there's the added value of drawing tourist attention in general to the UK, so all those Yanks who've been thinking of coming over might just make it this year that they hop on a plane.

He was on shift over Christmas. Your go.
Believe it or not but he does get treated as 'normal' aircrew, is fairly down to earth and isn't spoon fed... most of the time. lol. Or so i hear. His visit to my sqn was rather low key, and he got a tour of the hanger/aircraft with just him and our boss rather than a gaggle of officer bumboys following him everywhere.whiteonyx said:

or do you think some random stranger, here for the wedding, handing you a fiver (while saying "thanks for having me") will make you feel better?
go away and ask yourself how much less money the country will earn if the highlight of the year is Cameron or Clegg's child was to get wed.
if you don't like london at a standstill, i think you need to move

Cancel one of the tax increases? uhm looking forward to Osbournes speech in the Commons on that one!
Did you see PM's question time and the quirp about "someone" in the armed services speeking to him about the SAR sell off? or were you busy doing the dishes with your union jack tea towel.
I love London at a standstill as i live nowhere near it and by the time Cameron and his tea boys kids are ready to wed we won't remember either of them.
