Rather amazed at Judge's comments here.
A girl stamps on a woman's head with high heels and takes out one of her eyes and the main fault, according to the judge is as follows
‘Our towns and city centres are becoming for decent law abiding people no go areas.
‘And the sole reason for that is the consumption by young people - women as well as men - of excessive quantities of alcohol.’
‘Society is becoming increasingly fed up with the boorish and drunken antics of people such as yourself.’
Judge Trigger also lambasted the licensing laws which allow alcohol to be served in nightclubs up until dawn.
He said the nightclub where the assault took place - the Pada Lounge in Wigan - was open at weekends until 6am.
He said: ‘It beggars belief why the local authority permit places such as that to remain open until an hour of the day when people are starting to get up.’
But the icing on the cake was this final remark
Judge Trigger told her: ‘You over indulged in excessive alcohol and the consequences were almost inevitable.'
Of course it was almost inevitable, why everytime I over indulge on alcohol I stamp on someones head, doesn't everyone?

There's a judge who is not fit to hold their office.Judge Trigger told her: ‘You over indulged in excessive alcohol and the consequences were almost inevitable.'

Not sure what the problem is here.
Most public order offences are committed under the influence of alcohol. It's well-known that alcohol suppresses inhibition and causes some people to behave in ways that they would never dream of doing when sober.
The girl got 33 months.
So, where's the beef?

Because a 34 year old woman is now blinded in one eye and she got 33 bloody months. She should have had her fking eye cut out.And to cap it all, the judge blamed it on late licensing instead of personal responsibilty. Most public order offences are committed under the influence of alcohol. You all seem to have missed the bit where he sent her to prison for 3 years.
He didn't send the nightclub to prison.
What's your point, exactly?
The point is that we are all responsible for our own actions regardless of what drugs/alcohol we choose to consume. He didn't send the nightclub to prison.

The majority of the population can either avoid violence while drinking to excess, or know their limits to start with.
Instead on proposing limits on alcohol consumption that will punish everyone, including the law abiding majority, the judge should have been condemning the behaviour.
Added to which 33 months is a joke for blinding someone in one eye.

Bars and clubs are open in France until 6am but you rarely hear of their customers attempting to kill eachother.
That's because they are lovers, not fighters.A real question to ask is just where does all the money come from to get that drunk in bars?
While much of Europe's youth can gather in large crowds and not get drunk and start screaming and fighting, they also lack the kind of funds that permit this to be a lifestyle choice.

I dont disagree with that.
But this whole thread suggests the judge didn't blame her for her actions.
But this isn't quite correct as he did blame her, so much so that he put her in prison for 3 years.
I see what your saying, but read it more as a rant about his comments than the case specifically. But this whole thread suggests the judge didn't blame her for her actions.

He didn't say she wasn't responsible, that's why she got 33 months. For some people, violence is an inevitable consequence of their drinking alcohol - it's the way they are made. Don't forget judges see many, many cases like this and it's no surprise he's pissed off with having to deal with it - alcohol is a major factor in violent crime. The majority of the population can either avoid violence while drinking to excess, or know their limits to start with.

Under current sentencing guidelines, which are imposed on judges to stop them clogging up our over-full jails, 33 months is a stiff sentence.

But then crime is much less widely reported in France (rightly so in my opinion). This sort of attack would merit 3 or 4 lines on the back page of a local newspaper in France.Bill said:

I understand, but have learned ignore the actual words/ order of words in the daily mail and just pluck out the facts. The journalistic standars are so amazingly poor that th story often bears no relationship with the event. And its quite clear that the judge thought she was a total and sent her to prison, whilst having a pop at the licensing system at the same time.
THus the judge was actually pretty spot on in all likelihood
ie: Clubs open till 6am + Scum Women = Inevitable
