As some on this forum may know, we have been preparing an Ultima GTR for the Britcar British Endurance Championship this year. We are just carrying out the finishing touches to the car ready for the first test in early March, ready for the press launch on the 10th March at Silverstone. We will put a full launch article/press release on here in due course...

We are at the stage where we need to design the car's graphics. We thought it might be quite interesting and a bit of fun to open it up to people on here who are more artistic than ourselves! We are starting a little competition to the best designed car livery - should the winning design be adopted for our car, as a prize the designer will be our guest for the day at one of the rounds (as well as having their design on our car for the year!).

So, we have written a little brief on here as follows:

The car's current base colour is yellow, and we want a design which maintains the majority of the car in yellow with black and silver as the secondary and tertiary colours respectively.

We want the design to be dynamic and modern, however we will be cutting out and applying the black and silver vinyl's ourselves and so it must be relatively simple to replicate when applying to the car.

Some points to consider:

- our wheels, front splitter and rear wing will be black
- bodywork is 'pretty much' as standard
- there must be space for our partners logos, which are as follows:

(mod edit - sorry - no external website links - contact Jonny direct for more info)

So, let it begin - closing date is Friday 18th Feb.

Thanks

Jonny

->Jonny, whilst it's ok to ask for help liverying the car (good luck with it in fact), it's a fine line between this and advertising. Ta

hi Jonny,

nice website showing the build..Good luck racing it.

Im supprised you have the lowered floor and non rose jointed suspension if you are building it for racing.

The non flat floor will effect your aero and IMO the bushed suspension has its weak points(have you got the factory mod?) where as the rose joint suspension was designed for racing/ hard use?

It will be great to see an Ultima out there with the Moslers etc etc

Good Luck

Dom

Hi Dom - we will be changing the suspension for the rose jointed suspension before testing - the bushes will make the car too vague and there is the obvious life issue with them.

We have an extensive development program which we will implement over the next couple of seasons as we identify weaknesses with the car - the floortray and underbody forms part of this, along with other performance modifications and updates to the packaging of components round the car. As I say we will have an official press release on here shortly with a 'suitably vague' specification attached! After all - we can't let the opposition know everything....

Aircon then? Perfect to keep you cool when battling out with your competitors

No stereo - some are old pictures. Since its endurance racing and weight isn't an issue for us the aircon will more than likely stay put.

Please dont take this the wrong way but was this built as a road car and then you decided to go racing. Suspension, carpet, side pods etc all road car bits.

The car started out as a road/track car - a few years ago, but now its 100% race car. The Britcar British Endurance Championship has a power:weight ratio limit which we are likely to be a fair way over, so we can get away with leaving the carpet in, and the aircon is actually mandatory in most GT Championships in closed cockpit cars. Driver comfort is a huge factor in endurance racing as fatigue and dehydration is the enemy, so driving position, ambient temperature and cockpit noise levels are to be considered. The car has been mapped for fuel economy and driveability.

We have specified the car for reliability above all else, looking at the endurance championships over the last few years, these are the reliable guys won. The radio slot is actually for the car to pit radio - space is at a premium. The passenger seat will be removed for racing however it is a useful addition as it allows an engineer to map the car real time - track time is expensive and this is the most efficient way of doing it.

Back on topic, livery....

Reversing camera and flip screen? I imagine those no longer feature either then?

No - the car will have cameras as part of the telemetry system, however the flip-up screen has been replaced with a pit to car radio as macgracing mentioned above. Again, in car cameras are mandatory in a lot of GT/Sportscar championships (though not in the Britcar at the moment, but it seems that this is becoming the norm in these kind of championships as time goes)

Right i'm on nights this week so not the most diplomatic mode.

I can't help but notice the thread is receiving quite a negative response.

We all seem to be enthusiastic about what colour gelcoat or what design we should have on our t shirt. I thought one of the more artistic of us (not me unless you want matchstick men) would like to see their own livery design on a Britcar entrant.

It just surprises me, that we aren't our more usual helpful bunch.

Dave
p.s.
I am nothing to do with macgracing.

Sounds like you're in the wrong job Dave!
Yu should have taken a job at the collidron accelerator project near Abingdon - they take thier bed-rolls to work and you can guess the rest... sleep

.....and they get paid very good money for it!

Perhaps the response is just slow because like me most have no talent for graphic design.

What was the site that LuckyP used for getting design ideas for his racing livery? It didn't seem to cost very much for the quality of design ideas it produced.

If I had talent, I'd try. Unfortunately, my skills within the field of graphic design are slightly more lacking than my photoshop Paint.Net skills.

Otherwise, your car would be PS'd in dazzle camo in seconds =)
