Hi all
I have an odd switch which does not seem to do anything. It’s to the right of the gear knob, where your knee sits. (Not the one under the dash which controls the dash lights)
I was told that it turns the Air con on and off. If that’s so, then my air con is knackered because no cold air comes out.
Ideas?

Does it look like an electric windo switch? If so its the air con switch, if it does nothing you probably need the system re-gassing.

might well be talking out of my arse, but I thought the aircon was turned on by having the heater control all the way over to cold ... a microswitch or something?

Any chance the switch is for heated seats?

I thought it set the aircon to recirculate.

That is the recirculate button for the AC - press the rear of it and it recirculates, press the front and it draws air in from outside. Makes FA difference in my experience

I do hear a click when I turn the heat to cold. No cold air though. guess it needs re-gassing. Not warm enough yet anyway.

Cheers

Even when re-gassed the AC isn't particularly effeceive - You should run it for at least 10 minutes a week anyway as the seals etc are only lubricated by the coolant (so I have been told)

it is for recircle, but you have to hold it down for ages, if you sit in a quiet place with ignition on and no engine, you can here something like servo turning, and yes, its pointless until its really hot, and you have the aircon on, it makes the cold air even colder. (roof up) - eg raining in the summer.

the air con comes on at low end of the heater dial, you get a click. its on or off, so freezing air should blow instantly. I would check your air con motor is spinning, this is more likely to fail. (o/s front near top of engine)

Cool - I was told that too about the switch when I bought the car, it seemed to do sweet fa so that will be why!
However, if it's hot surely you take the roof off?
