Daft tyre question

Hi

I have the girly 16 inch wheels on my straight six cerb, but wanted to know vaguely what tread depth you would think reasonable prior to setting out on a 2,000 mile trip across Europe. Route to include some autobahn.

Whilst if necessary I would buy tyres in Germany\wherever I think it may undermine my gf's faith again (esp after my recent clutch stranding/reversing with help of teenagers) and to be honest avoid the nagging.

If it is this time of year i would want to have at least 5-6mm of tread in case of lots of standing water and we might still see snow this month. i think the more the better for winter driving.

Okay thanks for the info, but not planning on going till end May/June and was 5/6mm six months ago so I will get a delicious new set before departure and enjoy the odd burn out before hand with my dad who thinks an MX-5 is quick.

Don't fancy bending her unnecessarily, in fact I would go out and polish her immediately if she were near enough

The way i see it is ,It's the part of the car that is in contact with the road so i never skimp on tyres and dont run them anywhere near the legal limit of 1.6mm i change around 3mm most of the time.

BUT

am quite surprised that you mention cheaper tyres in Germany.

I get mine from Micheldever and the price difference pays for the trip
