buying house - use same solicitor as seller?

As above. What are the advantages / disadvantages of using the same solicitor as the seller (I am FTB). Would you recommend it or avoid at all costs? My instincts are telling me there must be some sort of confilct of interests somewhere.

Was told you can't use the same firm of solicitors unless you are a family member, ie purchasing from your parents, brother etc.
