support the campaign for a fairer fuel taxation
Discussion
Every time the fuel price goes up before Tax and vat it then triples .Why not cap the tax on fuel at a fixed price and any increase would just be at net.If it had been capped at £1 a litre we would only be paying £1.10 now..The govemrent were happy with the revenue when it was priced at a £1 a litre so why not now.

It's like the government has suddenly found that we're massively in debt or something and we need to raise taxation to pay it off or somethingCampDavid said:

Do you really think they suddenly discovered that!?The escalator was just easier to get through with the MMGW b******s attached, but they would have found some other way to make us thank them for it if they didn't have that.

Yeah lets stuff repaying the massive national debt in favour of saving a few pence per litre.
That clearly needs to be addressed too, but bankrupting the entire population and artificially slowing down every area of the economy does not seem the most logical way to achieve it, unless you can explain it to us in a way we can understand. (?) danger mouse said:

The point is that the few pounds a week you may save on fuel as an individual adds up to a massive amount on a national level which can go towards reducing (clearing) our national debt. This inturn will reduce (remove) the ludicrous interest we pay every year on this debt. The relatively small impact it is having in the short term is far far outweighed by the long term gain we will all benefit from. But as is common people only tend to focus on the here and now. What they can have today. And it is this now now now attitude that has stuffed up this, with people (and country) up to their eyeballs in debt. Hell our GDP has been negative for decades due to this attitude and its time we sucked it up. Short term gain will always be of detriment to long term prosperity.

Hey, I understand all of this but you need to think onto the next step of your own argument in conjunction with the wider spread effects of higher fuel prices. This is NOT about a small short term personal material gain but a short sighted government policy that is justified by lies upon lies. The relatively small impact it is having in the short term is far far outweighed by the long term gain we will all benefit from. I can't be bothered to go further into it, as it's been discussed ad infinitum in many places here on PH but the wash-down of artificially highly fuel prices pulls the hand brake on the economy and will slow down recovery and deficit repayment.
We are not all posh gits in Astoghini's round here and would rather not be hindered in doing our bit by not being able to justify going the shops to buy goods or food we can't afford or simply be priced out of commuting to work the jobs we got before the price hikes.
