Hi,

As per the title I wanted some buying advice on an 03+ year Audi RS6 Avant:

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2010...

Any RS6 owners/ex-owners got advice, what are the cars like to live with, anything to watch out for?

What is the real world economy on these cars (yes I am accustomed to single figure mpg thanks to my Impreza RA)?

Thanks in advance!

When I did research into ownership it was confirmed that running costs are horrendous, I then went and bought a 993 and that was horrendous too...

Common consumables on these cars are VERY expensive but it comes with the territory, just don't expect it to be as cheap to run as an Impreza.

Evo magazine did a breakdown of running costs for one of the supercar clubs.

IIRC The RS6 was more expensive than the lambos and ferraris.

To give you some idea, I believe disks & pads are in the region of £2,000.. and that's just for the parts. Woe betide you get into difficult mechanical problems!

Awesome awesome car but the running costs are in line with supercars... but then again, it's a big, heavy, practical supercar with silly power, silly brakes etc so of course it's gonna cost bundles.

Lovely. Just watch the "Full service history" - unlike all the other Audis of the time RS6s were not on variable servicing! They were fixed intervals (year / 12k miles i think). Caught a lot of people out...
Can send you price list (pdf) if you give me your email address (sad i know)

I almost bought one last year, but the sale of my boat fell through and I couldn't afford the car without selling the boat.

I loved it, awesome to drive and soooooo much power. I was also a little worried about the running costs. I had a B5 S4 which had recently had a £3,000 service and the RS6 was only going to be worse. Gearboxes are not their strongest point. I've seen cars on their 3rd box in under 100k! They're incredibly expensive so make sure you get a warranty!!!!

ecain63 (I think is his username) has owned one for years. He's recently sold it and bought an M5 but he had listed every little thing he's ever spent on his so it's worth asking him.

Consumption has got to be 20mpg under normal use. He did say it would hit 30mpg on the motorway, but I think you'd strugge TBH. I think single figures would be expected in heavy use.
