Hello all

I hope you can help.

I have an X5 (4.4) that was gas converted last July.

No problems at all with it but just started to leak a small amount of fluid from LPG coolant hose and basically to cut a long story short this is happening because their is too much pressure in the system. The car has been tested and consequently the head gasket has just started leaking

I can not find anyone to do the headgasket beacuse of the LPG system fitted

Firstly has anyone else had this issue and secondly does anyone know of anyone who may be able to complete the work?

Many thanks

Rebecca

Have you spoken to the company that installed the gas conversion last july?

Sorry, but this is a well known consequence of these gas conversions and IMO, far more expensive to fix that the fuel saving. If you can find someone to do the work, then the tools can be rented here:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&am...
however, the problem you may find is that noone will take the responsibility for the repair with a known fault regarding the gas conversion.
I would remove the conversion, then get the car repaired and just run good ole fashion petrol.

Thank you for your response.

I have been in touch with the local LPG garage who are going to pressure test it as they say it shouldn't be leaking from T pieces if there is too much pressure it should be released through cap

If they has been air getting into the system this will also need bleeding and the coolant pipes and T-pieces changing for the correct ones before an accurate block test can be completed

Will keep you updated

Thank you for your help

Make sure the coolant system has been bled correctly and no air is present, the LPG air fuel ratio must be adjusted correcly, infact run it a little rich as a lean running engine will run hotter and tend to boil up. Coolant and water mix is essential as the coolant antifreeze also promotes lower coolant boiling point, incorrect mix ratio can cause overheating which will cause increased pressure in the expansion tank. I've just recently done a small rebuild and found that the coolant pump had corroded impeller fins due to lack of antifreeze/coolant mix ratio. Have you checked the thermostat??? It might be lazy/opening too late
