Hello all,

Having read various threads on the warranty issues and on TVRs non payment of engine rebuilds I am wondering am I toi follow suit one day.

I am soon to own( 1 week to go ) a 04 Tuscan speed six. What i would like to know is, surely this being a new car and new engine will it have the typical faults that so many have had, or have TVR sorted it now. I am just enquisitive to know whether i should pro actively research warrantys etc.

Not that whatever any one tells me, will deter my decision to pick up my pride and joy and enjoy ownership of such a beast of pure madness.

PS Any one going to Croft this weekend......

Done 10,000 miles in my T350. I have been on 5 track days at Oulton Park where it was brilliant. I went to the Nurgburgring over Easter, and only thing that has been done to the engine bar a 6,000 service was a tune up for a slight hesitancy at 2,500 rpm!

If it's an 04 car, surely it's covered by the factory for the first year anyway?

Of the 3 02/03 Tuscan S's that I personally know of, one has done 8,000 miles with no engine problems, another has done over 16,000 miles with no problems, and mine has now done over 10,000 although it did suffer from a blown head gasket at 9,200 miles. This was sorted quickly and without any hassle by the factory under warranty though.

All 3 cars have done trackdays, and I'd say that this proves that reliability is much, much better than it used to be.

My 4ltr Tuscan is now 18mths old, just coming up for 12,000 ml service. No engine probs (touch wood). Admittedly I dont track it because its a use every day car, but it certainly gets its fair share of, shall we say rev participation, if you know what I mean.

I guess no one can say for sure.

My Oct 2002 Tuscan S is only on 7k miles, but just keeps getting better and better.
Uses no oil at all.

Reading these pages over quite a while (year and a half maybe) I would say that most if not all of the engine problems posted seem to be on the earlier cars (pre 2001 or certainly pre 2002). (Except the head gasket reported earlier in this thread).
That's how it seems anyway.

But remember you'll get a warranty for the engine until 2006 anyway with your new one!
Just warm it up properly and look after it and I reckon you should be fine.

I've had many problems related to the engine but mine is an 02 car and they mainly occured early on in the ownership around 4000 miles, on 15000 now and (touching wood quickly ) she has been fine

The finger follower issue seems to have got as far as some late 02 models, not heard of any 03 or 04 problems (yet) so hopefully your car will be fine and not suffer any rebuilds

Enjoy

Bloody hell! jigs must be slipping - he's usually straight in with a "speed sixes are useless" comment as soon as a thread like this appears.

He would probably be locked up and tortured byt he moderators if he even tried to make a comment. A shame really, every now and again he has a point - even when he doesnt he is still entertaining.

As someone who continues to question the S6 reliability (as soon as I believe its sorted we'll probably chop in the Cerb for a Sagaris) - I have to say they are getting better. Not quite there yet and judging by most of the comments on this thread, most cars still havent got the miles on them to prove anything.

Hopefully your 04 car shouldnt have any issues, time will tell - if anything goes wrong it'll be within warantee anyway, so little to worry about.

Barefoot, nice fleet - thought about the BE conversion on the Xblade??? Sealed boot/engine space should be ideal - and its a bit of a mental car anyway. The perfect candidate for a transplant surely? Perhaps even a Turbo bike engine??

Agree with Ed, mines done over 9,000 now and been on many track days and up to 170mph on the track a number of times and had not one problem,...just came back from another 800 trouble free trip to le mans and back.

BCA will be holding out for some time to confirm they are sorted yet (how long do you wait) lol....I would say they are sorted now as 'most' of the early problems happened earlier then the mileage the new cars are doing. Anyway with the sp6 going in almost all of the new cars I think its quite obvious from the lack of complaints from '03' owners onwards (of which there are now probably hundreds) that this is not the problem it used to be.
Don't worry about it and just enjoy...I would add though, that you need to give the engine TLC...if you look after it, it will give you years of pure driving pleasure.

Alan.

First straight six, T350c, done 5500 mile in 3 months, two track days and hassle free. Just back from 3000 mile trip to Spain. Oil consumption acceptable at 0.5 litre/1200 miles and getting better as the miles build.

No problems so far.

What's the BE conversion for the Xblade?

Took the Turbo Busa to the Evoactive day on Tuesday at Oulton Park. Drove my T350 in the morning as it was dry. It rained on and off in the afternoon and after a short dry spell took the Westy out as I went out the pit lane I gave it a tiny prod on the accelerator the turbo kicked in, wet track cold tyres, ended up in the tyre wall!

The marshalls found it hilarious as I had not even got on the track.....some sort of record they say!

I agree with most of what's been said on here - SHOCK HORROR!

If you read my earlier posts you will see that to be the case - I just get misquoted a lot. 2003 Speed Six cars on seem to be largely sorted - I usually just warn newbies considering earlier cars to be cautious as there's always a surfeit of gung-ho go for it advice around.

I just try to bring a bit of balance. I'm sure we all want newbies to go in to it with their eyes open and well informed.

Barefoot - automotive premature ejaculation?

That made me laugh!....Not saying I took some stick but while I was still in the tyre wall trying to get out of the car a friend of mine who used to race bikes was on the fone laughing his head off!

They say bad news travels fast eh?

Just rang Westfield for the damaged parts uper and lower wishbones less than £200 thought not too bad then was told £500 for carbon nose cone....gonna ave to invest in some tyre warmers methinks!

The bike engine conversion - BIG performance/ SRU/ Z-cars sort out a bike engine for your smart. Would be rather fun in an Xblade!!

I would probably be tempted to give it some holeshot treatment too though - and so the budget goes up...
and a 340R with a Vtec conversion seems like a more durable mad machine.

They dont let me out much sorry!

Anyway, Bike Engine conversion, 180bhp+ smart car?
