Perhaps the writer saw this pic of the Mustang pace car leading the field of the '64 race and thought it was actually racing in it roflhehe

I do love it when the magzines mess up. Like Classic Car last month on the E-type. I wonder how many noticed that the D-type with Norman Dewis at the wheel was LHD? They'd reversed the negative and never spotted it.

Oh dear! That is the kind of error you are most likely to see in Wikipedia. In fact, looking at the Mustang entry on Wikipedia .... it correctly mentions that it was used as a pace car in the 1964 Indy.
