Club MSV Novice days
Discussion
Hi,
Has anyone been on any of these? I've been on track once (one lap!) and on the North Weald driver training (Club 1st Lotus at the time) many years ago but I am now considering taking my S2000 on track to learn to drive it and have some fun.
What I am trying to understand is which tracks are most appropriate and what I can expect in terms of other participants/cars on the novice days. I assume its not a problem to go just on my own?
Any other companies that do novice only days?

Yep, my first track day was an MSV novice day at Bedford Autodrome. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
They take a bit longer with the briefing at the beginning than on a normal track day, talk you through each corner and track etiquette in more detail than usual. All helpful stuff, even if you've done track days before.
The standard of driving on the day I was at was good, everyone took it easy to start with and built the pace up through the day. Nobody was trying to prove anything or be a track day hero. Would definitely recommend it

My first track day was a novice day at Snetterton last August.
The briefing and set up of the day was very good and I did very much enjoy it, but I very much doubt that all drivers were novices. Because the day was session format, I found a few drivers were a bit too aggressive with their overtaking.
I've since done open pit lane days and find the driving much more relaxed due to the open format.

I was at Brands Hatch for the novice session today. Can thoroughly recommend it. Well organised and everyone was really friendly and respectful on track - there is no problem turning up by yourself. Will definitely be getting along to another MSV session in the very near future.
I was also there today doing the Caterham circuit experience. There were a couple of Scoobs that had a bit of a spin very early when damp, but other than that it all seemed well behaved. There was a MK1 Focus RS that although quick and a decent driver didn't seem to want to let the Caterhams through, even the instructors at the end who had to keep dropping off.And someone driving a Discovery3 round seemed a bit far fetched!!!Baring in mind that Brands is quite a technical circuit it was all pretty sensible. Loved that Mini Estate!

I was there yesterday; it was my first ever track day. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend ClubMSV to anyone wishing to give track day a go.
Spent two sessions with an instructor (Nico) as well and I certainly benefited.
I was the chap with the VW Corrado.

For a first timer the Indy circuit seemed perfect in terms of being short enough to learn and while I was lightyears off the pace, I did feel that I improved over the course of the day. The tuition was excellent and I wouldn't have wanted to drive first time out without it.
ETA sjc, I was sharing the car and instructor with you - good day.

RE: experienced drivers turning up on novice day: I don’t have any problem with that; I guess sometimes they’d have problem filling up an event with only novice drivers. Everyone was courteous yesterday and I didn’t see any silly antics. It was said that yesterday MSV would limit the track to around 25 cars at a time, but the track was never that busy. I had many clear runs where I didn’t encounter any traffic for 3+ laps.
sjc - Saw your Noble at the car park, I’m very jealous! Next time I see you I’ll come and say hello; maybe you can give me a passenger ride!

One other thing, anyone notice the MX5 with "No hair products left overnight in this vehicle" written on rear quarter? Thought that was great! And there was so many there, I may have to look at the BBR refurbished option if I can fit in one.
If it was the white one then it’s the one belongs to Nigel and Matt. I shared the garage with them. Matt took me out in the afternoon and it was great fun! Car’s well sorted and Matt’s a great driver.

Hi everyone,
It's Matt here, Event Coordinator for Club MSV - It's great to see that those of you that attended our Novice Only Trackday at Brands Hatch on Monday had a good time!
