Guys, I'm interested in a Soarer that's come up for grabs near me and was wondering if anybody knew much about them? It's the 2.5 Litre Twin Turbo which is supposedly a similar set-up to the Supra Mk4 Turbo.

It's up for around the grand marker, and it seems to come with a HOST of extras for the money.

What are they like??? Obviously I've had a look at some reviews etc but wanted to see if any fellow PH'ers had one or has had one and could give me some advice.

Thanks!
Darren

Soarers are nice cars, especially with the 2JZ engine (supra variant). Price seems reasonable what extras do you refer to? Do you have a link to the ad? My mate had a soarer with a single turbo pushing around 400bhp. Very quick for a big car!! The 2JZ engines are quite sturdy given good levels of servicing you can be looking at getting around 200k plus miles out of it.

The (Toyota!) Soarer TT is fitted with the 1JZ-GTE with a claimed 280bhp - essentially a short-stroke version of the 2JZ in the Mk4 Supra (or rather the 2JZ is a long-stroke version of the 1JZ smile). The turbos operate in parallel, unlike the sequential operation of the 2JZ-GTE. The Soarer was never fitted with the 2JZ turbo, only with the naturally aspirated 220bhp 2JZ-GE, as used in the Lexus GS300. Nearly all Soarers are 4-speed autos. Manuals (TT only) are extremely rare, but the auto is a good 'box. The Supra was developed on the Soarer chassis so there are a number of shared components.

There is plenty of information on the various UK and Australian sites:
http://www.soarerworld.com
http://jkwebdesign.net/lsocbb/
http://alscforum.com
http://soarercentral.com
http://planetsoarer.com/

I guess the things to look out for, other than the usual stuff, would be
smokey turbos
deterioration of the radiator top tank
wear in the suspension bushes
splits in the door trim (they all do that, sir)
heater matrix leak in the passenger footwell
if it has traction control, that the brake booster pump isn't running continually or more often than every 2/3 presses of the brake pedal

If you mean a V8 manual, there are none (except conversions).

Only the TT and later VVTi single turbo were given a manual 'box (and the SC300 in North America).

Here is the advert for the car:

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/2364723.htm

I've ALWAYS wanted a Supra to be totally honest, a Manual N/A Supra, but in decent condition they're going for way more than this Soarer. And this Soarer has ALOT of power for the cash.

I have been looking into V12 XJS's, which also come with near enough 300BHP, but they weigh alot more, are alot less reliable, and the fuel consumption would be a nightmare.

My only concern really is insurance, at 25 with 7 years NCD I should HOPEFULLY be able to get a half decent quote I should imagine. Hopefully. LOL
