I race in the 'A' category and have done up several cars to the top '600' spec. The thing is, even when I'm driving out of my skin I finish 2nd at best; when the race ends I see the car that finished first is usually 3-6 seconds a lap quicker than me, yet is still rated '600'.

I do drive manual w/clutch, without any assists but I thought when I had them on it impeded my driving more than anything. What's it down to; more fettling/tuning?

I usually pick the car to suit the track so outright speed is Bugatti EB110, handling Lotus etc.

I find this too. I think it comes down to tune. I am going to purchase some top tunes and try those out. Annoying isn't it smile

Some cars go through phases of being the "in-car" for tuners as they are unbelievably good when tuned for a particular class, for example at C425 you have the Celica and Golf GTI/Scirocco, and at B500 you've got Subaru WRX/Audi S5 and so on. Not sure what the cars are for A class as I don't tend to use these cars, they spoil the fun a bit!

I noticed a glut of Audi S5's and Lexus IS350's winning constantly in 'A' class. I think it boils down to ABS; this allows them to brake later, whereas I have to watch the amount of braking I apply. I'll try it later with ABS on. If I'm still a few seconds shy of 1st place, look for a 'so I flung my controller at the wall' thread here on Monday hehe

The tune helps a lot, but more than anything its the driver. My mate is insane at road racing and can finish a good 7seconds or so ahead of me a lap, despite the same car, tune and assists.
Maybe trawl the storefront for some tunes for good set-ups smile

Well this is why I prefer the Forza 3 cycled production races, then I know that if I don't win it's my fault, where as I just get pissed off getting beaten by drivers who have better tuning set ups

A friend of my gifted me his Audi S4 to see if I could tune it to make it better, i'm not the best but after about 10-15 minutes of tuning gifted it him back and he told me he was 2 seconds faster than his previous best.

It's not justt he tune but it does help smile

All the rating of A600 means is power. If you dont tune the handling the power is useless.
Try some of the popular A600 tunes for oyur car and see if you are any quicker.
Depending on the track I like the Ferrari 360 CS, a lot more grip than you think for a RWD.

Going back to the days of FM2 I built a Scooby tune that basically kept me up with all the top PH drivers of the time, everyone was impressed, then I gifted it to Curry who promptly knocked 2-3 seconds off all my laptimes.

I've had a few LB tunes in FM3, my E275 Fiat 500 and D350 Audi A4, got lots of set ups for A600 depends really what you want, I'm a crap driver but not a bad tuner smile
