I moved into a rented house in December last year and on the second day the back boiler failed. Apaprently it was noted as on its way out by the gas safety inspector. The landlord has been very good about it and replaced the whole heating system with a combi boiler and new rads.

Since the install I have had problems with adjusting the temperature of the shower. It is a Mira Gem 88, the manual for this states The Mira Gem 88 is not suitable for mains pressure (cold) with gravity pressure(hot) or combination boilers/instantaneous water heaters. The only way to change the heat is to use the stopcock in the airing cupboard to adjust the flow of the cold water. As I like a hot shower and the wife prefers luke warm this is becoming an issue.

Since the boiler was fitted we have started to notice problems turning on the taps (both hot and cold)sometime the tap will turn on fully other times it will stick. Sometimes the tap will start to flow but as we turn it more the water stops. This is sometimes accompanied by violent shaking in the pipes.

This has all been reported to the letting agents who sent out a plumber. The plumber aggreed that the taps and shower would probably need replacing. Following on from that visit we have had no contact from the letting agent, and have had trouble contacting them.

Today we have a routine inspection by the letting agent so I was wondering if anyone could give me some ideas on what is needed to fix these problems so I can have an infornmed conversation with them to try and resolve the issues.

It sounds like the cold water in the house is now mains fed, so the shower is not suitable as you say. If this is the case, then maybe the taps, toilet cisterns etc will need to be restricted to stop the pipes banging etc as they are probably not meant for mains pressure if gravity fed before.
