Not at all. The JDC magazine ran a detailed article on the V12 engine which slated it in no uncertain terms. As I recall the author summarised that the engine had compromised every car it was fitted to.

The V12 made the E a GT and not a Sports Car.
The XJ-S/XJS always was a GT.
The XJ was designed to take it.
The XJ40 was designed not to take a Rover V8 under any circumstances and if that meant no V12 then that was a price that had to be paid.
The X300 was back to being able to accommodate it as they'd fixed the XJ40 by the end.

I wonder where I can find a copy of the article. Should make for an interesting read.

Another view would mark it out as one of the world's greatest engines. It was designed to provide a silky smooth experience which I believe it does to an extent no other V12 has achieved.

I had to wait many years from first seeing a V12 as a boy before I got one. Now a 5.3 and a 6.0 are mine to listen to and marvel at.

I'm with you on that, it also powered a LeMans winner or two. The engine was a fantastic acheivement for such a small company and it certainly made BMW and Mercedes sit up at the time.

I can't help you with the article as I threw my copy away in disgust and I was surprised it passed the editorial stage.

The author obviously fancies himself as the new LJK Setright, but the only thing he has in common with that great writer is a long beard. IMHO of course.

Well I obviously don't know the author, but aiming to be the new LJK Setright is aiming pretty damn hi. Always the first thing I read in Car. Didn't always agree but loved the way he wrote and the way he'd present his argument.

I remember reading a copy of (I think) Automotive news 10/15 years ago and seeing this line advertised for sale. It didn´t specifically say it was the Jaguar V12 line but it was pretty obvious it was.
Anybody know where it went?

Fantastic piece of kit, glad if it went to scrap at end of V12 engine run and not to China for about 8/6p sale price, I am rather keen on my V12 XJS and it even better with the getrag five speed fitted, wonderful combination, sod the petrol price etc.

The latest copy of the JEC magazine said they were going to do something to celebrate this event but didn´t elaborate. I emailed them last week for details but haven´t got a reply yet, does anybody know if anything is planned?
