ST220 Dual Mass Flywheel.
Discussion
I'm no expert, but generally I think there's a few points:
- AFAIK all petrol and diesel mk3's have the DMF
- Apparently it smooths out the drivetrain
- If they fail they can cost £££ to replace
- Nobody is entirely sure what causes the failures, but they're much more common than the derv. Could be the extra torque or it could be a conseqence of labouring the engine
- None of this really worried me when I was buying, definitely check the overall condition of the clutch but I wouldn't worry unduely about it.
