Hi All,

I’m looking for a bit of advice on Leasing.

The GF has had her 1.4 LX 206 since she passed her test 4 years ago. She has been looking around for a while at some sort of Hot Hatch / Warm Hatch. She drives my 172 and loves it and would like something similar.

Petrol / Insurance / Tax etc etc isn’t really an issue, she works 2 miles from her house and her insurance being female is laughably cheap (It’s cheaper for her to insure a Ferrari F430 than it is for me to insure an M3!).

We were looking at 2nd hand Fiesta ST’s and getting one on Finance a little while ago but she has since realised she can lease a new car for hardly anything per month and keep on getting new cars every 2 years. I like the idea, when discussing with a friend with an ML320 CDI it worked out over 2 years cheaper to lease than it did to buy it outright and sell in 2 years based on depreciation!

So there’s a few different leasing options… PCP PCH etc. What’s the best?

Also, she likes the DS3 but what other sporty hatch’s are out there? She doesn’t want anything wild like a Focus RS, just a quick’ish 1.6 / 1.8 / 2.0. That looks good.

She’s looking to spend around £150 per month.

Any advice / car suggestions would be helpful, I think we’re going to go round some dealerships over the next few weekends.

Thanks,

Steve.

The DS3 is a great car, and the THP engine is a cracker. It doesn't half shift when required, but is very good on fuel when you settle down (I was coaxing it to 50mpg on a run). Sharp handling combined with a funky but well screwed together interior and decent exterior looks and it seems that Citroen are onto a winner. I still wouldn't buy one without trying the 1.4TB Mito first though.

If she could stretch to £200pm you could probably get a SEAT Ibiza Cupra. Comes with the 1.4 TSI 180 hp turbocharged and supercharged petrol engine and 7-speed DSG gearbox. Surprisingly cheap to insure, for some reason with the Admiral group it costs less to insure one of these than it does for a regular N/A 1.4 petrol Ibiza...
