I'm planning to build some decking when the weather inproves and I'm looking for a non slip option.
The obvious solutions of nailing wire mesh on, carpeting it or sticking gravel on aren't at all appealing
Google throws up any number of products, but I wondered if anyone on here had any first hand experience of these sorts of products?

Recommendations of the products to use or avoid would be most welcome

How about going marine? www.tiflex.co.uk/marine/marine.html

Chickenwire is much cheaper though!

Assuming your decking is flat, not a ramp, you just need wood with radiused (curved) edge, nothing special. Avoid decking with grooves, as they only collect slippery stuff, and are harder to clean. It's only in the UK that we assume decking needs grooves, in fact they make little difference in the dry and make it much harder to keep a deck clean.

Make sure you have a slight run off away from the house, so you don't get standing water. The wider the board, the harder it is for water to escape sideways through the gaps, although wide boards look nicer IMO.

Take a look at the various composite decking systems - we fitted this stuff http://www.timbertechuk.co.uk/

Most are more heavily textured than natural wood, and stay that way (and based on 1 Winter, seem to be algae resistant, too, which also helps). Price is a little more than softwood, but not much, and ours has a 25 year guarantee, which is nice.

When staining the deck just use a sive to sprinkle sand over the surface to improve grip. Regulary wash down the deck with a pressure washer to stop the growth of moss or slime
