just wondered why car brakes brake from the front and not the back. Also can you get 4 wheel brakes system at all wheels?

Why not a progressive system that brakes from the back then moves to the front, allowing more steering input?

Not sure what your asking, the answer is probably that when you brake the weight of the car shifts forward and thus braking from the back would cause the wheels to lock easily

If you have a heavy rear bias to braking then you'll find that rather than being able to turn while braking you instead get massive understeer

Does your car not have brakes on the back? Mine does.

To put into perspective... Acceleration you get thrown back in your seat, deceleration you get thrown forward in your seatbelt.

Same happens with the overall mass of the car, making the rear end balance less, making it easier to lock up and more than likely spin out.

All four wheels do brake, but with a heavy bias towards the front.

Weight transfer.

Cars originally only had rear brakes, but you can stop more quickly using the fronts because the weight of the car is biased forwards as you slow down.

All modern cars have brakes on all wheels, with a bias valve to limit rear clamping force to make sure the rears don't lock before the fronts.

If the fronts lock, the car skids straight. If the rears lock first the car could spin out of control (think handbrake turn).

This is true, but also the footbrake. If your footbrake isn't braking your rear wheels as well as the front, your car is faulty.

That probably answers the question then, as I thought the front brakes only braked the wheels..
