Shall I do it??
Discussion
Evening Boys.
Ive been umming and arring about whether or not I should go for the ITG Carbon Fibre induction kit. Ive looked at the hurricane version and others but am reliably informed that the ITG kit is the only kit that gives any real power gain.
Its going to cost the best part of £450 fitted.
So the question is do I do it??
Will it make that much difference to the engine note (I have a lotus sports exhaust) and is it worth the money. I really want it as it looks good! But should I spend my money elsewhere?
will it change my life?
Somebody tell me its the best thing I could get!
Advice please...
(Its a 2004 model 111s btw)
Cheers Boys...

I went for a pipper cross vipper system and you realy do notice the differnce it gives around 10 bhp and more mid range grunt sounds good as well.
You can fit it your self i did and i have no engeering
knowledge at all took me aroud 1 hour and thats taking the old system out as well.

I'm not sure who 'reliably' told you that the ITG kit is the only one to gain power. I can reliably tell you they're talking bollox.
The Hurricane is an excellent piece of kit and compared to the ITG great value for money. So you may not get that extra 1bhp at the top of the rev range but I can guarantee that you'll never notice it. As with all these things the power figures quoted by manufacturers should be taken with a pinch of salt. If they say it'll give you an 8bhp increase then they probably tested that on an engine that had everything else done; porting, cams, manifold, exhaust......
Sound wise you'll get a bit more whoosh as the engine draws air in, most noticeable on hard accelleration. Doesn't affect the exhaust note. For the most induction noise you have to fit an open filter like the K&N 57i but then you loose out on pwer due to it breathing hot air form the engine bay.
Cheers,
Rob

complete bull - the difference between an open £50 K&N and the top of the range £350 ITG is probably like 2-3bhp in the real world...if you can tell that difference then you may as well become a human dyno
dont believe the marketing hype - the ITG is a good bit of kit (had one myself - my S2 did 136bhp with ITG/sports cat/Magnex exhaust) but I reckon 3-4bhp max each for exhaust/induction/crp etc...and thats if youve got a good engine. Most std cars do about 124bhp - add 3 bolt ons and if you are lucky you get 134-36bhp .....if you believed the manufacturers then you would have 8+6+6 and have a 140-45bhp car with just a few bits.
By any cold air system - e.g Hurricane in carbon box if you like the looks etc and gain a few bhp and a lot more noise - it will seem quicker

Had an ITG kit on my S1 and it was the doggies - the noise was fantastic, it enables the car to rev easier and maybe gives a bit more power.
£450 sounds quite steep - I would fit it yourself as it is fairly easy to do and you learn a bit about the car and shop around - there may even be some second hand ones kicking around.
IMHO go for the ITG - I had no regrets

Cheers chaps.
So reading between the lines all of the induction kits over the £200 mark are all much of a muchness right?
its just confusing when there is such a price difference between them all!
presumably, the larger the box and the larger the tube feeding the air, the more cold air gets into the engine?
Still undecided, keep the advice coming...

ok, more information to help you decide.
K&N - Noisy and gives you a big grin when you floor the gas. It's also easy to fit (remove existing airbox and fit the cone to the throttle body) Power: does exactly the opposite to what it says on the box! because of where its placed, air coming over the car into the mesh in the engine cover heats up as it passes the block and then past the filter, hence power drop.
ITG Maxogen - Gives some induction roar but not as much as K&N. it's a little more complicated to fit but only needs some basic (really basic) skills. Power: more than K&N as this is essentially sealed system from the intake to the TB so there is little heat influence from the engine. Carbon fibre looks the business too.
For looks and performance the ITG is the one to go for. As the other posts have said don't expect massive gains in power and torque. What you will get is smoother idle, slightly quicker pick-up and throttle response (even better if you have the 160 TB) a nice induction note and about 4-5 BHP.
