E36 problem with lights/locking

Hi, The missus has an E36 Touring and for some reason its just started to do something very strange when she locks the car (Either using the key or the clifford alarm fob)

Basically, when she locks the car, the dashboard lights (guages, switchgear, window switches etc)and the rear number plate lights come on??? unlock the car and they switch of again.....

Anyone have any ideas? I'm gonna disconect the battery tomorow and re-connect on Sunday and see if that acheives anything, but after that i'm stumped.
