I think the advertiser should actually just do what he will ultimately do now and save his listing fee??

If anyone is interested I also have a cruddy S2 chassis in my back garden. it would be a good basis for close examination of organic and non organic life forms!!

I also have 2 pairs of specially cast project uprights. they are perfect for any restorer who needs to get his eye in with a Mig welder and weld up the cracks?? i could always list them at a very low £75 start price....Stroll on!!

Having no experience of restoring chassis', what is the general view for Vixens - repair or replace. Or is it really a case by case decision?

I decided to stick with my original chassis and repair the few sections where there were a few pin holes following blast cleaning. I was really keen to retain the original but i must admit I have wondered at times if I've made the right decision. I've got no fear of it failing and as long as I own it it probably won't see a drop of moisture but if it ever were to be used for track work or as daily transport in all weathers then I dare say it would need replacing within a few years. I don't know much about the structural integrity of the Vixen chassis but mine certianly feels very solid, even if it probably has got quite a bit less metal in it than when it was first made 43 years ago.

Vixens excluding the M chassised S4 are made from round tubes and so are less prone to rot than M, wedge and latere chassis's. That said you can always find rotten ones as well as good ones!
