Anyone got BT vision?
Discussion
I was just looking into changing our broadband over to BT and noticed the BT vision thing they have. Is this basically like freeview with some tv on demand? Is the OD stuff all extra? At the moment we have sky+ with an extension run upstairs with a magic eye remote. Is this possible with the BT system as well? Also we dont have an ariel only a sky dish....
Thumbs up for BT Vision here!
The On Demand stuff is great, particularly the music option which gives you a list of hundreds of artists/concerts etc and you can pick tracks and see the video, much like a video juke box. The karaoke channels can be fun at partys too!
BBC iPlayer, 4OD channels etc are all there and the past TV show selection is good.
It's a lot better since they stopped the bloody annoying separation of the different BT companies (Broadband, Vision, phoneline etc) and now you get the one bill and one (UK) person to talk to.

We had BT vision at our old address (only reason we don't have it now is due to poor freeview reception).
We hardly ever used the On Demand content, maybe twice in three years, but being able to pause, record, rewind etc was a godsend!
Would recommend BTV
Now have FreeSat with PS3 providing OD content.
I've never had Sky but can't imagine it's better. Does Sky have OD?

....and it's BT
our BT vision is...OK. Feature wise the TV on demand is ace none of the technology gets in the way (when broadband is working) you just choose what you want and it starts instantly. in terms of value the BBC stuff is free, other channels you hav to pay for replay services on my package which is a bit annoying when you you should have/could have recorded.
on demand films is ok, but they cost at this time of year there's more than enough good tv on.
on demand random programes is excellent, lots of different stuff including a lot of blokey stuff (i'm not talking pr0n [although is available]) car shows, air crash investigation, WW2 documentaries etc etc and a lot of it free
The best bit is the recorder, it's a relelation and very useful
Worst thing about all of it though is BT's customer service can be terrible and we've had hardware problems, broadband reliabilty problems which do get fixed quickly but can be a ball ache.
overall - recommended but it's not a bed of roses be prepared to talk to BT a lot. tip - get arsey straight away and boom - UK call centre

We've had it for over 3 years now and it's been pretty good. The OH got it on a very good deal though as they were just launching it, we've looked at other providers like Virgin and Sky but the BT Vision system suits us.
Have had a couple of hiccups over the years but the help line has always got us going fairly quickly.
Iplayer has now been included in the package too which doesn't impact on our broadband monthly download limit so very pleased with that
The only downside is that we have an original silver box which doesn't give a particularly good picture via HDMI
I'm just waiting for BT Infinity to come to our exchange and i will then be very happy
