Yep, Dawes Double Edge was our wedding present to ourselves. Great fun. If I was buying again I'd be speaking to the guys at Thorn.

We hired a Trek MTB style tandem up at Windemere last year. Was great fun but I agree with previous comment - your riding partner needs to be stable. There was an awful lot of flex in the frame of the one we had but I suppose that the length. It felt like the back was trying to overtake the front a lot of the time too, especially on steep descents. Our one suffered a broken chain half way round the circuit but the hire shop came out and repaired it en-route.

Mrs. Wades isn't a strong cyclist so overall it was a good way to cycle together and cover a decent amount of ground.

Definitely worth trying one out.

I rented a tandem with my wife for a half day to ride along the canal towpath near Bath. It was great fun, once we'd figured out how to start and stop the thing. Turning up the winding paths at the locks was a challenge but otherwise it was pretty straightforward since it was flat and fairly smooth.

I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. Seeing a tandem always brings a smile to my face and we haven't ruled out buying one at some point.
