Just got a nearly new 911 C2 a couple of weeks ago. Went to put some oil in found the inside of the filler tube with a layer about 10mm deep of gunk - like when oil and water are mixed.

My local dealer, where I bought the car from, tells me that this is normal as the temperature at the top of the filler neck is not hot enough for condensation to evaporate and it mixes with the oil fumes creating the gunk.

Anyone else experienced this? Should I be worried?

It may be OK. Condensation can do that. Keep an eye on coolant level. If it goes down, trouble. If not, all OK.

Superlight - did they do something to sort it out. All my dealer did was clean out as far as they could reach but left me with the expectation that it will always happen!!

Apparently 911's use oil - particularly when new.

I bought it at 2500 miles at the end of Feb and it was at the bottom marker on the electronic display and with some encouragement the dealer filled it up. It's was at 4500 miles 2 weeks ago and it was at the second bottom marker again and that's when I found the sludge!!

Hmm, seems alot of movement for 2000 miles..

They do use Oil, but only really as the cylinders are horizontal, you tend to get a little oil seapage past the rings, so on initial fire up, you will burn off a tad.

I just found it strange that 2 weeks into ownership, you were having to fill up your new car..

Still hope you enjoy her I did mine.
