My Mate - New Tuscan Owner

Hi all,

My mate is buying a Tuscan just in time for the summer. Having owned only a Focus ST before, this will be his first real performance RWD car.

Are there any characteristics he should be looking out for in the Tuscan? I can't stand the thought of the poor chap getting spat off a roundabout and pranging his new car 5 minutes after leaving the dealer.

Yes tell him to take it easy especially in the wet.....remeber what Clarkson said "Owning a TVR in the past was like owning a bear, I mean it was great, until it pulled your head off, which it would. One day, it would pull your head off."

Steering rack is very direct & is only 1.7 turns lock to lock. This means it can become twitchy, especially at speed, over bumpy roads or when it very windy.

As above, he needs to take it easy until fully use to it. There's no driver aids to sort things out so if he drives it like he may have done the ST (not saying he would or that he drives fast at all), then he will come off worse.

Totally different (& better) driving experience than an ST.

Might be worth getting some experience on a driving course before he gets too carried away, that way he can learn to push it with plenty of run offs. Tuscans are pussycats until you push them then they turn into tigers........Steering takes some getting used to.

I drive a VX220 Turbo, should I expect a similar driving experience? (albeit with a shed load more power!)

The odd thing with Tuscans is the long throttle pedal travel. Town driving with small throttle inputs is much like any 2.0 petrol car, start to push that pedal more than three quarters of its travel and you are going very fast in any gear. 2nd gear takes you to about 85mph if you are brave enough to lok at the speedo.

Steering is very sensitive and takes some getting used to.
