E39 6 CD Changer not working....

It's making an extended "loading" sound for about 10 seconds and the dash display says there are no cds... any ideas?

Take out the cartridge and try reloading it. Worked with mine.

Tried it several times, didn't work I'm afraid.

I would take the changer out the boot. Take it apart and clean it up inside making sure there is nothing obvious wrong.

If that's too much like hard work, put the finest nozzle on the
house vacuum cleaner and clean up the changer by prodding
the nozzle into the open load tray.

I've fixed many a VCR/CD player with ten minutes of 2KW power, missus.

Extra points for lots of cat hair, sausages, toothbrushes,
bits of lego and assorted kids toys also accidently stored in the player.
