PLEASE COULD ANYONE WITH PERSONAL EXPERIENCE OR KNOWLEDGE OF BUYING AND RUNNING A CONTINENTAL R FROM TH 1990'S SHARE THIS WITH A POTENTIAL PROSPECTIVE OWNER

WHAT ARE THE WEAK POINTS WITH THESE CARS ?
IS THERE A SPECIFIC TIME POINT AFTER WHICH RELIABILITY IMPROVES?
WHAT ARE THE RUNNING COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THESE CARS?
ARE THERE SPECIFIC MODELS WHICH ARE MORE DESIRABLE , AND IF SO WHY?

Rust is the biggest problem of all with 90s Bentleys.

I amy be Prejudiced but I have a 2000 Mulliner Continental R. There a few varieties with different specifications . Have a look at

This will give you a full run down. The models other than the standard semm to hold their prices better and in my opinion the wide bodied 420BHP are the ones to go for.

The Rust areas are at the base of the wings near the doors and the adjoining sill and the strip above the rear bumper.

Sevicing costs vary and the big service involves changing the hydraulic pipes at 60000 miles and costs about £4k. Like all quality motors a fully stamped sevice book from a main dealer or recognised indie is vital.

I've just shaken hands on a 1997 Continental R from Paul Wood. I don't claim to have expert knowledge but I am widely advised that sourcing a car from "the best of the best" is money well spent. The place is certainly worth a visit to enjoy the museum of cars on display.

I'd be happy to swap stories and the small amount of knowledge that I have gained in my research. I also have a spare independent report on another Continental R that was on my short list. You have certainly gone to the best place, so I doubt you will have much to worry about with the car, although many of the independents, such as Phantom Motors are very good indeed and well worth a visit for servicing etc. I was very impressed with their knowledge and attention to detail when I used them.
