This is similar to a thread last year that focussed on 500 quid snotters, but i find myself having to find a very cheap car for a while.

Sorry if its been covered recently but I could find anything on the search, while searching i found this http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/2461022.htm

Not very exciting at all but for a workhorse it looks very decent.

What can you find?

David.

Unfortunately its a long way away from a not so sunny Glasgow, but I bought this thread could give me some direction to some cars a little more local, well circa 100 miles in any direction.

Ah, that will teach me to not read the description fully.

It seems finding a car at this price is no longer an enjoyable process. Were they all crushed under the scrappage scheme?

Tragic.

Auto trader used to have a "bargain basement" part, the new site is a mess, does it still exist?

Wow - didn't realise Audi A4s were quite THAT cheap. You've enlightened me... sense a morning in the classifieds coming on!

WHAT! But not the Primera! hehe

The two old E34 5 Series look quite pleasant value too, as are both the Volvo's - happy hunting!

you're looking in the wrong places. Autotrader is too expensive, and dealers, also, are too expensive. Something someone can afford to sell on AT, and still take wages out of, for less than a grand, is not likely to be anything like £1000-worth of car.

Proper gems are found in newsagents windows, local classifieds, pre-loved, retro rides, and to a lesser extent, eBay.

PH is pretty good, but this is not really its forte.

it's worth sniffing around ebay as well. I got a 96 328coupe for £640, 2 owners, everything works apart from intermittent thermostat. There was also a 96 A4 avant for c1k and a zt190 which looked good for c1k as well.

Not bad, but would cost me the same again to collect it.
